Title: handlebar guard install.
Post by: aschrauth on February 10, 2021, 01:07:04 AM
Hello all,

With the frigid temps that have plagued the nation I have decided to let my scooter rest until the spring. I have a couple of questions. Im looking at purchasing some handlebar guards. I have taken measurements and these seem to fit. However, it requires me to attach it to the actual handlebar. Upon inspection I noticed that there are "caps" on the handlebars that have a Hex Head that looks like an allen wrench can be inserted into it. Do these " Caps" come off or are they permanent?

those are the bar end weights and are definitely removable and replaceable (if desired) with different weight, shaped and colored bar end weights. Heavier ones can help dampen vibration and colored, highly styled ones add...style?..to the scoot!

I remember removing mine a few years ago to clean up some slight corrosion. If I recall correctly, they came off fairly easily.

Thats what i thought they were, i might end up taking them off when i put my handelbar guards on, when those are not on ill probably throw some aftermarket ones on, do they just screw off?

I don't think they screw on...I think they just are put in place and secured by the hex head screw.  You're the second one mentioning hand guards, recently. Be sure to post some pics if you get them installed.

So the ones that I ordered off of amazon of course did not fit which was kind of what I was expecting. Problem was they were too large and bumped in to the plastic in the front of the scooter. However, all is not lost, I plan on putting some new handlebar End weights on.  My next mission is to find a windshield. Problem is those go for around $150 New and im not really looking to spend that much on a piece of plastic. Im afraid if I get a universal one it is not going to fit.
