Post by: MORGS777 on December 25, 2020, 05:13:58 PM
Hi All,
Happy chrimbo !
OK cant find a place for posts for KYMCO EXCITING 400I so i hope here ok.
Im a KYMCO EXCITING 400I owner in UK, and need help to open underseat storgage to get access to battery as battery totally dead
and seat catch/button is electric !
Have googled it but cant find any help.
Kymco UK in Bridgend have been great but they are closed till new year !
I have had sports bikes and after 15 year bike sabbatical i bought a Gilira nexus 250, then Kawasaki 300 and now a 2019 KYMCO EXCITING 400I.
Gotta say handles like a dream and powerfull enough for a bit of fun !
Thanks In Advance

All my Xciting's have a cable from the ignition switch to the rear seat latch that is manually operated with a left turn on the ignition switch of the key.

Thanks mate, left turn normally opens but its electric latch.
Might have to lie down in puddles as UK weather :}
I think button and latch both electic and work a solonoid under seat aaggh

But thanks

Sorry about that. Is there a video on you tube about opening the seat?  I down loaded the manual and all it did was show the location of the seat latch motor and relay under the center hump.

Maybe a Kymco dealer service could tell you a alternative way of opening. Sorry I'm not much help but if you find out let us know.

Seriously?
A scooter without a manual backup lever in a locked glove box up front somewhere? ?
Not shown in owner's manual. ...pull lever accessed by ignition key?

Yep Stig everyone of my Xciting's and Grandvista has a cable from the ignition switch to the seat latch. Turn key to left to open. To get the gas cap to open you turn key to right past on to open. You put gas in just under the dashboard.

It sounds like they went from bad to worse with a electric seat latch on the 400

Ok, ok, I understand that a key is used in a mechanical manner to open the seat on some Kymcos ...but if they're using the key to trip an electrical release, then they better have a backup manual method.
This must be behind a keyed opening for security reasons.
My Liberty has a clever button to electrically release my seat latch. It also has a manual lever hidden in the leg shield which is accessed with the ignition key.
If there is an electrical seat release there must be a manual backup. No??
Never did like that twist key to pull a cable sest release. Cable stretch, corrode, come loose, break key off,  etc. Plus it is a long ways from ignition to seat release catch.

Reminds me of the guy that died in a new Corvette when the battery terminal was loose and wouldn't open the door. He was parked in the sun and died from the heat.  No one had shown him the manual lever next to the seat evidently.  His hand was literally next to the lever when they found his body.

I would think there has to be a backup way of getting in as well. All to common for scooter batteries to go dead. Happened more then once with the stupid (met in) light and interior seat light being on. Now I make darn sure when I access the seat compartment that light is out.

Not crazy about the long cable seat latch myself or the key to open the gas cap.

So it's the same as all my Xciting's with a manual seat latch? Thanks for the follow up.
