Title: replaced pilot jet and got a surprise
Post by: Iahawk on October 28, 2020, 09:39:27 PM
I think I mentioned in a post a few weeks back how my pilot jet was clogged..again..and during my attempt to clean it I think I gouged the metal and clogged it permanently or ruined it? So I went ahead and ordered a replacement (#35).

Installed it today and got the scoot running fine, again. Was very low on fuel so added a quart of Tru Fuel I had sitting around. Took it for a nice 25 mile ride.

My surprise was that I noticed (for the first time) the screws on the carb bowl are JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard)! Those familiar with older Hondas (and other Japanese bikes) from the 60's and 70's are familiar with those screws...as many people have buggered them up using a regular phillips screwdriver instead of the correct JIS driver. They're identified by a little round indent on the screw head.

Not sure if this means our carbs are Japanese (or just accurate knock offs?)

Good thing that my favorite screwdriver happens to be a JIS screwdriver. It's also an impact driver, although I've never used it for that purpose.

So I'll post a few pics of the carb unhooked and turned upside down to service it, pilot jet and my favorite screwdriver.

It's been a few weeks since I've ridden due to cold, wet weather. Man, it felt good to ride, again!

one more follow up question...can anybody read the marking on my high speed jet? It looks like the screwdriver cutout took out the 3rd digit..

looks like 116 ?? Maybe? (on a People S200 with 163cc engine)
