Title: Rear tire change
Post by: wymple on August 13, 2020, 02:00:45 PM
I just bought a 2010 Xciting 500. It needed a new rear tire & appeared to be a hassle to put on. It turned out to be 1/2 the job I thought. I can see why it's so quiet as the muffler weighs about a ton. Now I gotta get busy wearing it out. I'm sure liking this thing so far. I added a thumb lock cruise control, & changed the fluids. 21K on the odometer. I've put 180 miles on it in a single ride so far, no problems. It seems to get around 60 mpg when I tool 2 lane roads at 55 or 60 mph, drops to about 50-52 up around 70. I can live with that. No shortage of power, either.

I took the easy way out and had the local dealer change half a dozen scooter tires this summer. It was because of age instead of being wore out. The price was reasonable.  I commend you for tackling it yourself.

The Xciting makes a comfortable road warrior.  The only difference I found between the 500 and 250 is the 250 runs out if steam around 65-70mph before red lining where the 500 is happy to cruise at 80mph.

Sadly we can only get the Xciting 400 here in the UK  :(

The 300 and 400 are good scooters and very worthy machines, nothing to be sad about. They should be able to do the speed limit and beyond.

I once took my 500 up to an indicated 88. I'm told they will run out of steam around 94-95. I believe that as it certainly wasn't done. It cruises very willingly in the 70's, but I'm not young anymore and prefer the middle 60's or our 2 lane roads in the 60 and below range. To really enjoy a scooter, IMO, find a lonely, winding, 2 lane blacktop and run about 45. Pure heaven.

I think we all know how to find our own little piece of 2-wheeled heaven!  Long may that continue.
