Title: Transmission SAE90

The owners manual For my 2007 Xciting 500 calls for SAE 90 for the transmission. I cannot find it at autoparts stores or online.
Is 75W90 an acceptable substitute?

The 90 is the important part which is the thickness of the oil (please correct me lubricant gurus if I am mistaken) and the W is the operating temp range. I currently use Lucas 80W-90. 75W-90 is fine but I will see if I can find a good chart.

The manual simply states sae90 as the W will vary whether it is summer or winter etc.

Actually both numbers are important. But your basic premise is correct. The W is the viscosity when tested at 0 degrees F. The other numbers is the viscosity when tested at 212 degrees F. So 75w-90 flows like 75 viscosity at 0 and like 90 viscosity oil at 212. .Bottom line, yes it can be used in place of 90 weight oil (or any oil between 75 and 90.)
