Swung by the State Park reservoir on my way home from coffee this morning.

When we were in near-lockdown several weeks ago - our state leaders encouraged us to make use of the walking paths in the county.
And a whole lot of peolpe started flooding the parks - not a worry to pup and I as we are finishing our hike at the dam while most are still trying to wake up.
A good many people seem to have made this morning walk a habit.

The city put in a network of new sidewalks last year under the safe schools grant. One of those runs through my yard. You see a lot of families and individuals out walking and jogging now.

I'm just over 1200 miles cycling since mid March (our lockdown started around then).
The last time I put full in the car before a fortnight ago was March the 18th.
In March, April and May, the roads were superb for cycling and I had hoped it would be this way forever. Sadly not.

I finally got back into cycling to work and I have been enjoying the job a lot more since then.

Well, now we are in a cabin on the side of a mountain in the Smokey Mountains, Tenn.
We all discussed how we would handle this vacation during this special time.
Glad we did - our expectations were thus not crushed by what we found.
Today I drove slowly through Gatlinburg, the tourist town a few miles away.
City posted large banners asking folks to distance and mask.
Not only did we dare not get out of the car.....but we rolled the windows up as well!
The length of the town looked like a Florida spring break beach crowd in the '90s.
Thousands of people of all ages, 95% of them un-masked, keeping NO distance between themselves as they stood in lines or huddled trying to walk on the sidewalks.
Pigeon Forge was the same -- at all of the attractions.
Actually, I was not really surprised. We booked a cabin away from others, and brought everything we'll need to sustain ourselves and keep our distance. The view is spectacular! A man can stand there on the top deck, with his pup and a cup of Joe, in all his glory viewing the valley........or put some pants on!
And if the transmission in the rental doesn't perish while climbing these amazingly steep switch-backs to our cabin...… Well, I have free road-side assistance.
AND, I got to bring the pup with us!!
The behavior of our countrymen on vacation was no surprise to us....but what really makes me angry is what the Kudzu is doing to so much of the local vegetation! What the heck were those people thinking when they brought that stuff from Japan!?
Did see one Tao Tao with 3500 miles on it.
