I recently bought my first Kymco scooter and I love every minute I've spent riding it. However it's not perfect. The previous owner managed to damage/remove the seat locking mechanism from my seat. The lock cylinder is there and works fine, whats missing is the rest of the latch mechanism that looks like it should fasten to the underside of the seat with 4 philips screws. Does anybody know if I can purchase the latch mechanism or do I have to buy an entire replacement seat?
Thanks in advance.
-
Congrats on your new scoot, pedro! I'm not real sure about the lock but you can look on the diagram here for your model scoot

Thanks for the link. I found the seat listed as an assembly but nothing about the latch mechanism at all. If somebody could look under their people 50 seat for a part number or maybe take a picture I could show to my local kymco dealer that would be greatly appreciated.
-
Aww...sorry about that, pedro. I have the agility 50, but there's some folks here that have the people 50 that might be able to tell you. Good luck.
Enjoy that new scoot! :)
-
G'day pedro, welcome.
Hey art, ya got a parts scoot?
-
Thanks for the welcome you guys. I can't wait to derestrict my little 50cc. I think I'll start with the variator boss, then probably the CDI next. That ought to get me a few more MPH.
-
Welcome to the forum. I don't have a spare at the moment. Try calling these guy,I can't find a part # either. http://www.stadiumyamaha.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/73/Kymco.aspx (http://www.stadiumyamaha.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/73/Kymco.aspx) . Ask for a seat latch. I Would do the cdi first If its an older one just do this in the pic. Unplug the green wires at the bottom of the unit. Good luck
-
Can anybody confirm the correct part number for the derestricted variator boss for my 2004 People 50 2T. I have called both Kymco dealers in my area and both were unable to help me. I have decided my local area dealers are unable to assist me and would like to order online.
Is the derestricted boss that everybody uses from another model Kymco? Most Kymco parts websites seem to have the same part number for the boss, however Scooter Therapy has a different part number for theirs.
Thanks much. :)
-
I dont know the part no. but if you go by the dimensions you should be ok. you could take your existing one to a machine shop and get the shoulder skimmed off.
-
Dealers can be very skittish about this stuff - it is illegal for them to derestrict the scooters.
-

I visited two different machine shops today with my stock boss in hand. Both shops told me because it's extremely hardened steel that they couldn't cut it down on a lathe but to precision grind it down to size. One shop told me at least an hour and a half time to retool the machine. It'd cost me around $95-115 to get my stock one ground down to size.
Did you have your stock one machined/ground down. If so, please let me know your secret handshake.
-
I was able to get a derestricted variator boss from my local dealer, the part came up as a zx50 boss. If anybody is interested I can post the part number later today.
Still no luck with my seat latch/lock. Could somebody please take a picture of their seat latch and send it to me.
Thanks :)

here's a pic of the 50
-
Here's a 150 looks like it would work also
-
Here are some pictures of my seat. What is the silver tube thats missing from my seat? Any chance you could take a closer up picture of the latch itself. I can't tell but it looks like something I might be able to construct myself.
Thanks

That would be your tool kit. Your not missing much there. My camera sucks your lucky you can see these :D It's just a bent bar with a latch. You might look at the 150 parts list they might have it available.
-
I think I found all the parts I need from the people 150 seat diagram online. Does it look like my seat is damaged in anyway or do you think I can just buy the 150 latch parts and screw them right on to my seat.
I do agree with you, the 150 latch looks identical to my people 50 seat.
Thanks.

I think you'll be fine. Looks like someone removed it for some reason ??? Might have to mod a little, but i don't think so. I see no obviouse problems, sometimes the latch's can get a little sticky, but a couple tweeks should make it right if you think about it for a second, removing it ??? ::) :P
I havn't tried to install the 50 on the 150 but side by side looks like a fit to me.
-
Thanks Art. I ordered the parts from my local dealer yesterday. I'll update this thread when the parts arrive.

Most Kymco parts websites seem to have the same part number for the boss
..yup..the boss is the same for the agility, vitality, people, super8, and i'm pretty sure that it's the same as the super9 as well..
-
How long did they say it would take to get them in, pedro?

The seat parts? 4-5 days is all he said.
-
Your stock weights should be 16x13x8.5g. I had the best luck with the 7.5 set after derestriction mods.

I can't wait. Finally I'll be able to leave my helmet with my scoot and not worry about it getting nabbed. I already installed the new variator boss and disconnected the green wire on my CDI. I verified my new top speed last night with my GPS at 47.4 miles per hour. Not bad considering two days ago it topped out at 30 mph.
I've got some lighter variator roller weights on order already so that should help a bit with my loss of acceleration after the new boss drive.
This forum has helped me tons. Thanks a bunch to everybody that's helped me out. I really do appreciate it. :)
-
GPS at 47.4 miles per hour
Wow, you are rolling!! That's great. There's no stopping you now!! :D
-
..hang out pedro!!!...
..it only gets better from this point!!!
-
I got my seat latch parts in today. Took a bit of creativity to get it all to work though. There are very slight differences between my People 50 and the seat on the People 150. All that really matters is that it works and now I can actually lock my seat. :)
Thanks for the help you guys. Now if my variator weights would just hurry up and get delivered. :P
-
Hey, that's great news, pedro! Good job!! I know it's a pain carrying that helmet around everywhere or leaving it and worrying about it. Your rollers should be here soon, right?
Took a bit of creativity to get it all to work though
A little creativity goes a long way! ;D
-
Yep, The new roller weights should be here anyday now. ;D
-
Cool glad it worked ;D
-
Cool glad it worked ;D
Me too, Thanks Art for your help. :)
-
I got my new rollers today. I tried a bunch of different combinations before I finally settled on 7 grams. It's got really good acceleration now down low in the RPM band and the best part is....I didn't lose any top speed, I just confirmed it with my GPS I actually picked up 1/2 mile an hour. 47.9 mph now! ;D ;D
These scoots are awesome, 14 days ago I bought my 2004 People 50 2t bone stock with the wind at my back it'd hit 30 mph, Today I'm keeping up with traffic on the main roads. ;D
-
Excellent, if you go lighter you can improve the take off, but as you found, you can lose some top.
-
Ha! you'll be beating half of the line also :D Next! http://www.sip-scootershop.com/EN/Products/M519988/Racing+variator+Multivar.aspx Ha! Enjoy!
-
..awesome pedro!!..
;D
..i was fixin to drop to 6.5 grams...
..1/2 gram makes a great difference...
-
Yep, It's amazing how much so little weight can make a difference.
-
...true...
;)
-
That's great, pedro! Sounds like they were worth the wait!!

Yeah, It only took 6 days to get here from Taiwan so the wait wasn't too bad. :P
-
That is amazing - it takes me 3 weeks to get anything from Taiwan!
-
Less than a week from Taiwan? That's great!!! I thought you ordered from the U.S. You need to bookmark that site! :)
-
It was just ebay. I've had real good luck lately with my ebay orders coming from China & Taiwan. Sometimes it'll take a month or two, other times I've had my order in 4 days.
-
4 days!??? No way!!! That's some pretty quick shipping! :D
-
True story. Plus I never buy anything from overseas that charges me shipping. So I've received packages as quick as 4 days from mainland China via free shipping. ;D
-
Taiwan Nebraska?
Can't be the same Taiwan I get my stuff shipped from....
-
My variator weights came today from Taipei, Taiwan par avion.
-
You may have a career as a resller.
I'm lucky to get parts within 2 weeks.
-
and I don't get free shipping!
-
Shoooot. Them folks in the U.S. better step up their game then if you can get things from overseas in 4 days. LOL
Taiwan Nebraska?
I know, right? :D
-
It takes so long to get parts that I've begun to preemptively order stuff at the slightest hint of a problem so I will have it on hand.

This is the actual listing I bought from. Notice were it says "1 Sold" If you click on it you'll see my userid "pedro16v" I bought them on Oct 1st, 2010, they shipped out Oct 3rd and were delivered today via Air Mail from Taipei Taiwan.
-
Wow...that's awesome! They treated you good...
-
It wasn't luck. I always make sure when I'm buying something to buy it from the seller with the best possible feedback score. Not only that, but from a seller that leaves feedback for their buyers. You'd be surprised how many sellers don't ever leave feedback for a sale. You can gauge the quality of the seller by their feedback, both received and given.
-
Good points there Pedro, I have noticed that some buyers won't leave feedback until after you do, so if you buy the item and pay immediately you should have a positive feedback, but they wait, so my guess is that if they stuff up and you leave them negative feedback, they will leave negative for you.
Unfortunately, we are considering leaving negative feedback for a seller here in Australia, it appears to be not what was advertised, and they won't respond to our communications, will try once more to communicate and if they don't respond, then, so be it.
-
Pedro hasn't posted here since oct.2010 . Good luck .
