Title: Rear lighting LIKE200iLX
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on May 27, 2020, 12:36:28 PM
Every one of my scooter rides involves some riding in the dark.
One thing which drew me to the Kymco LIKE was the large tail light!
I replaced the case with one that has wrap-around LED running lights - which double in number when braking.

That's I-70 over there to the left.

That's a very good idea, IMHO.  I've always been very wary of being hit from behind by some distracted driver; even more in the past ten years or so.  I always stop at an angle behind cars at a stop light or sign, and keep an eye in the mirror for knuckleheads approaching. Phones  ::)
Do you draw the voltage from the rear tail light assembly?

Yeah I dig this 💪.  Always freak out when driving at night. I can out run them on my bike 😁 however would be a totally different situation on the scooter.

Yes, wired into the rear light assemble.
Lay on your back and remove the little panel to expose the wires and all the rear bulb holders.
Being all-LEDs, the drain is not significant.
Photo hoster took away all my install pix - but I added a sticky, above,  of the procedure.
Routed wires to the assembly into the body, here

Nice job Stig.  Always think a top case with no lights is a missed opportunity!

Stig / Major Tom, what method did you use to tap into the wires for power to your top box? Solder with heat shrink? posi taps?

To make certain I was tapping into the correct wires - I worked upside-down in that tail light assembly - rather than digging into the wiring harness elsewhere. Tight quarters - I used something like posi taps. The area is well sealed behind that removable flap/panel, and I've had not trouble with my connections.
