Title: bystarters - anyone familiar with these things?

I've been working with bystarters on my Kymco scooters.  Some work properly.  Some do not.  I've taken resistance readings, done bench tests, etc.  I have a question or two if someone here has worked with bystarters.

i'd like to learn more about these mysterious things...isn't the auto bystarter the auto choke on our bikes? Functions to enrich the mixture at cooler temps...does it function based on temperature? All I know is I just kind of ignore it on my carb...didn't even touch it last year when i needed to clean my carb jets.

I like this explanation.  Although it's for Hondas, it is very similar to the 49cc Kymco unit.

Has anyone read this wiki and feel that they pretty well understand it?  i.e. the air and fuel passages for this circuit  and the movement/position of the bystarter "barrel" relative to those passages?

The auto enricher on my agility had issues in warm and cold weather. I just attached a choke cable and had a manual enricher. Which I learned today also functions as an indicator of running marginally rich or lean when carb tuning (by increasing the fuel mixture while riding).

I'd be interested in seeing how you did this.  Sounds cool.
