Title: Anyone purchase a new 5g phone?
Post by: Kansas kymco on March 12, 2020, 04:12:54 PM
Seen my cell provider is offering a $200 discount on a new 5g phone. I don't think we even have a 5g service yet.

5G only available in the big cities over here (UK) so think I'll give it a year or two yet.

Do you have a 5g network?  I think it's only available in a few large cities. How do you like the Samsung?

I still don't get it,     I used to ask, what does that (insert # of Gs here) phone get you that I don't get from the phone line the phone on my desk is attached to ?  I have almost any speed internet (not copper anymore, phone company installed fiber optic a few years ago)

the moment I go outdoors anywhere I work, my co-workers are complaining about not having bars on their phones, whatever that means, all I know, it that I have better connectivity with my emergency SPOT device

I don't have 5G where I live but I travel for my job and regularly have it in the cities i travel to. I really like my Samsung..S10..have had Samsung / Android since they first came out...well, after the Blackberry...not an Apple guy so the Samsung suits me just fine.

Honestly I use it to text, email, the occasional phone calls and a little internet browsing...I think all phones are pretty good, now.

only when yer in range of a cell tower,  coverage is getting better, but still scattered around population. hilly terrain requires a lot of towers

Please inform yourself about 5g before using it.

There's an awful lot of crazy out there on the internet with regards to 5G, including the link above.

Do some balanced research from proper journals and sources.

I'm not saying either way it's harmful or not - you can make that decision.

For many, being able to use a phone with the speed and data capacity of most fiber installations will offer the opportunity to "cut the cable", using the phone both home and away and dispensing with one more monthly bill.

I'm already totally dependent on 4G instead of cable so it sounds like a game changer for me.

Did not realize cell phones were so controversial. I ride lonely back county roads with older Kymco's and wanted reliable communication.  Did not mean to offend anyone.

Seems like any topic discussed by two or more can become controversial. I started an oil war on one forum.

Why a discussion of cell phones and 5g would be controversial.
I think someone is losing it.

5G is being rolled out throughout Australia and I can't wait for it to supplement our wired NBN (National Broadband Network). Right now it is too congested during peak periods so any long-term improvement is worthwhile.

I'm considering starting a controversy over tires - or maybe fuel...

Please don't.

I learned when I asked a cyclist group about the ultimate chain lube. Apparently everyone had the best secret oil.

Didn’t read that as “overboard”, just a balanced too right comment [emoji3]
