My XTown 300i has been on the road 9 or 10 months and I am pleased with it, but low miles for me only 9,000 so far. This is my 11th maxiscooter since 1990---over 400,000 miles with them.
I like Kymco quality bike works fine once you treat it as stretched 250....which it is
Standard windshield is crap.....as are those of the rest of the maxiscooters on the market....maybe BMW adjustabile and Suzuki 650 adjustable shields better ( I have test ridden both---price and cost of ownership scares me off them). So my Kymco has Puig touring screen cut 4 inches, topped with bolted on Laminar Lip, providing reasonable ride comfort----wish it would have come that way and saved me some money/experimenting!
I like 1 qt oil capacity---so one qt of WalMart 10-40 works. No oil filter other than screen, fine with me, but frequent oil changes necessary for engine life.
Rear wheel remove sucks----just like all maxiscooters, except BMW.
Lack of parking brake sucks! I have gimic from Aerostich that can lock front brake for parking on hill, etc.
Owner's book not clear on octane requirement for US market----seems to work on reg or super, 68-70 MPG so far.
Bike is tire sensitive---OEM rear wore square quickly, replaced by Michelin City Grip---at replacement time, 15,000 miles or so, think I will replace with matched set of Michelin Power Pure SC, based on experience with them on both Burgman 400 and Silverwing 600---they wear round!! and in my use last a long time or if good deal on Metzeler Feel Free comes along may try them. I do won tire work and use "Ride On" as balance medium.
So far XTown is/had seen very good scooter at good price----My Givi E-46 box is bolted directly to rear wing....dog likes it,

just trying to have a little fun with the pictures!....but seriously, thanks for the detailed updates, John. You put on more miles and have more scooter experience than anyone around and it's always good to get your take on the specifics of a machine.

Little up date on box and dog---box is Givi E-46, 1998, hole cut in top for dog's head----as hole was cut for Jack Russel and Moose is Yorkshire, he wears safety chain in case he want to jump. Moose has ridden east to Nova Scotia, north to Alaska, James Bay road in Quebec, and 49 states with Burgman 400 and Suzuki TU250.
Box has probably over 600,000 miles on various bikes/scooters----including Europe/Japan/Korea. First year of use, lots of useless junk fell off the box, including lights/map carrier, etc. Right now I hope it will last several years more. It is not the only box I own.
