Title: How many years have you rode bikes & Scooters ?
Post by: Kansas kymco on February 25, 2020, 02:11:31 PM: Did not want to hijack the history of the Kymco forum thread. I got my first bike when I was 8, a Harley Legaro 65cc Italian POS dad bought at a garge sale for $35. The first bike I bought was a new 1972 Yamaha DT2 250cc Enduro when I turned 14. I have rode Enduro bikes most of my life or now called dual-sport. Still have 3 Duel sports two BMW'S F-650 GS and a Kawasaki 650 Versys along with 4 street bikes and my Kymco collection. Yes Stig they all run very well and are all licensed and insured except for my project Kymco ;).

Well I guess technically the project Kymco runs just won't go anywhere without a variator and belt. LOL. Will go down this week to get minimum insurance on project so I can get it tagged and title transfered over to my name.

So 53 years with a few years off in the eighties.

I had a 15 year layoff owing to lack of funds in my 20's and early 30's, but as soon as salary allowed, I was back on 2 wheels. For some 30 years of that time the bike was my sole or primary form of transport and during that time I was a 365 days a year biker. These days I prefer it to be above 45F and preferably dry before setting off. Call me a wimp, but I don't feel I have anything left to prove on 2 wheels.

My first bike I rode on snow, solid ice, rain to go to school the alternative was to ride with my Dad to school early on the way to his office and wait afterwards for him to give me a ride home. Now I'm a fair weather rider.

Bought my first scooter at age 49 and motorcycle the next year at 50. 53 now and planning on riding as long as I am able.

When I was 14 I was lusting after a new Honda Express or Yamaha Yamahopper moped...parents said no way...knew one day I would get on 2 motorized wheels.

Another member of Romeo riders Bob is in his eighties and still rides.

44 yr gap (one or more of my 6 children in the house for 48 straight years now - one teenager to go - but she hides my scooter keys, so I can't drop her in the forest - yet)

A Honda, Suzuki, Kymco and Piaggio scooter after that gap.

I did steal a BMW in Paris once in the 60's. But only made it about a kilometer before the gendarmes nailed me....so probably doesn't count.
Although, my mother sure hasn't forgotten that adventure - she re-tells my kids every time we visit.

Unfortunately they are in short supply...lots of college kids riding scooters but they all seem to sell them once they graduate and leave town..

I guess I come under the "younger" demographic. I mostly rode in my 20s because owning a car was totally unaffordable.
