We try to stay way from hot political topics - but this just takes the cake/donut!
Canadian based Tim Hortons, a personal sponsor (I have a Platinum Card), is the uncontested benchmark of N. American donuts & coffee... (sorry to my beloved Boston Dunkin D's and those nasty little Krispy Kremes)
So, what does Canadian PM Trudeau do ? --- skips Tim's and buys a slew of designer donuts for a cabinet meeting.
And now we have "DonutGate" …...I'm not Canadian but he's lost my vote.

Well I support his use of local businesses. I get mine from King Donuts (a favorite of the Oregon Capitol workers) and only a short bike ride away and really yummy!

I support our one DD, and all three of our TH's....and a home baking guy in my coffee village.

Big Blue I had some donuts from Voodoo Donuts in Portland, was very interesting. The donuts were good though. We have Dunkin out here, so that's the go to place.

Leo, I'm originally from Pawtucket so many Duncans under the belt. Yes Voodoo has some very odd topping combinations. ::)

I don't normally eat donuts but when I do they are from local family run shops.

In Amherst, MA, in the early 70's, I'd get the Wild Hair...and talk the Mrs into a late night trip to Dunkin Donuts through the Mt Holyoke cut. Biggest urges came when it was snowing the hardest. Always trying to get my '69 VW Bus stuck.
The Mrs had to move to the back seat a few times - for traction when I really got stupid.
We always made it home.
I was 22....
Who hasn't liked taking their VW out in the snow at night?!

My wife and I took our '63 Westphalia camper bus into some of the most ridiculous places in the Sierra during our early camping phase and never got stuck. ;)

The early buses, through 1979 in this country were great in the snow.
I found my Vanagons less so. I suspect this was due to moving the fuel tank to the middle of the vehicle vs. having all the weight over the drive wheels.

Had a '68 Beetle in my early 20s.
After a night of bar hopping w many shots involved, and watching Apocalypse Now in a cinema pub, had a blast driving it like a bumper car, bouncing off snow banks and doing 360s in a school parking lot. There were 3 of us. All in the front. Don't ask me how someone sat in the middle. But it was probably safer for how I was driving, as we were so packed in we kept one another from being thrown around.
That car was practically indestructible. Flipped it upside-down after hitting an ice patch at 65 mph on I-84 in PA. At 3 am. Sober, but had bald tires w old shock absorbers (rode like a baby carriage--fun, but not stable). As it happened on a slight decline w snow and ice everywhere, that upside-down Beetle made a heck of a sled, sliding quite a ways before coasting to a stop. State trooper showed up and a couple truckers stopped, and we rocked that thing upright. Roof was now concave so I had to slouch a bit, but it started up so I drove it 3 ½ hours to get home after having been on the road for 10 hrs.) Had to hold the driver's door shut the whole time as the crinkled roof prevented it from closing.
A year later a bad mechanic set the points too tight and the engine blew, effectively killing the car.
PS I'm a much safer scooter/mc rider than I was a driver back then. ::)
