Title: is the odometer in km or miles. speedo seems to have both but km is bigger
Post by: sirrealism on September 19, 2010, 06:59:36 PM
just a simple question that seems like its in km but wanted to be sure. the kms are much bigger and brighter and the mph are small. so is the odometer in km or miles. scoot was purchased in Fla originaly.

the outer numbers on your od are kms the inner are in mph but please note the ods are not very accurate to say the least,if you have a gps try what your gps says compared to your od think you will be shocked.tc :)

The main numbers are kmh, the lesser are mph, the odometers are km.

oh ya definetly inacurate lol I had the scoot saying it was going 44 mph and I was going 36.7 gps. I only asked this weekend because the gps was at the shop. so now I can figuar out what is really on it or at least a lot closer. has anyone tried to fix the speedo. I am sure it is a gear to gear cable or maybe an exciter ring and a magnet speed sensor. Seems like everyones reads fast. Next week I am using the gps again and a paint marker. not pretty but at least it will be close. I will do a mark every 5 miles after 15. there is no speedlimit for scoots here but I run through 2 school zones that are 15mph and if you are going 18 its a ticket.  love this site and thanks for all the info again.

Maybe a bicycle speedo is the way to go, when set up they are quite accurate. I am trying to set one up, but I think I have copped a brummy.
The Kymco speedos are very inaccurate, I believe it is deliberate to make you think your Kymco is faster than it is. I personly wouldnt use a paint marker.

I understand that a paint marker is a little tacky but I just dont want or need a speeding ticket. its $250 for speeding in the school zone. you might be right to use the bicycle speedo. isnt there some gps for runners that are weather proof? I dont know but its just a little frustrating for a machine so good quality to have a speedo so bad lol

I have used bicycle computers before with great sucess, maybe you wanna try some cheap high vis car stripe and mark ever 5 mph after your 15mph start point as opposed to paint or marker as im almost certain it will perminantly damage your clock face.Just an idea :)

If you don't want permanent marks on your speedometer, sirrealism, you could always use a small piece of colored tape (or adhesive label or sticker) and cut it very small and thin with an X-acto type knife or maybe even scissors. Then you could easily remove it later on.
