Title: 2006 Mongoose 300 starts then dies! Help!
Post by: Darryllw1 on October 12, 2019, 02:02:05 AM
Hi all.  Sporadically my Mongoose 300 will start and run perfectly.  Most often, it will start, run for about 3 or 4 fires, then die exactly as if I used the kill switch or turned the key off.
Has anyone experienced this?
Two people have completely gone through and cleaned the carb, so I’m sure it’s not the problem.
The battery is new and at 13.0 volts.  It activates the starter motor great, and the starter has always been strong and works great.
I make sure it’s in neutral with the parking brake on (as the manual demand prior to starting.)
I’m thinking it might be the CDI “allowing” the engine to start, run for 3 or 4 fires, then killing the engine because it thinks it’s not in neutral?
I have a CDI (model TYC-D421) with a 1” crack in it. Is it possible it’s damaged in a way that is causing me the problem?
Any advice??
Thanks.

Darryllw1,
Would start searching either at fuel supply (pump, filter, hoses) or clogged jets (model depending).

Then checking all switches, brakelight, killswitch, etc. for function.

Also ignition coil, cable and startplug are culprits sometimes and to be changed.
Where exactely is this mentioned crack?
