ermmmm beleive it or not i was thinking about this today,i recon its only the bore capacity that changes, but the physical fit should be the same as i explained in other post my bike was a write off when bought so i spent quite a few days/weeks scouting around breakers yards and as expected seen a lot of a50s and a125s by looks alone i swear there is no difference only the obvious bore capacity and carb probably, will be watchin this one very close.NICE POST CON SERIOUSLY NICE POST!!! :)

Sorry to jump all over your thread con,but can anyone confirm that the a125 engine will drop straight into the a50 chassis im pretty sure it would from what i seen in breakers yards, and on that note wtf is a a125 top speed before mods,ie standard out the factory?????? ::)

thanks here in md we have to tag anything above 50cc but if i had a scoot with a 50cc vin and a 150 motor they can't say sh**

i figure i can only mod a 50 so much to get what i want

remember theres no replacement for displacment!!

well im not sure but i would think so

i do know there is a longshaft motor and a shortshaft

i think it has to do with the trans but not sure

i hope i can swap motors but i dont know if i will (dont want to get kisked off the a50 section lol)

Post by: omfgdotcodotuk on September 18, 2010, 05:57:34 PM
how the hell do you find out if your motor long or short shaft!,do you have the measurements for this?.cos i recon i could have a beast in the making here.Obviously ill have to move on to the a125 section in the none to distant future, :)

I think this has been discussed before. Check your belt length and that of the 125.

Title: Re: engine swap ?
Post by: wordslinger on September 18, 2010, 10:35:26 PM
..the problem i see, potentially, would be that the 125 engine/gearbox...all one piece..looks longer than the 50...

..there are dual shocks on the 125..

..look at the service manuals of both scoots..

..there are links to them in the general board...

..check the "overall scoot length" spec for both..

..if the 125 is longer, then there might be a problem in a swap-out...

Yep the 50cc is the key thing the police look for - although the law does specify that the scooter has to have a rating of 2.7 hp or less, they'll never be able to prove that!  As long as you have the original paperwork that came with the scoot, it would all be good.

The law also does state that you can't operate the scooter at more than 30mph - but doesn't say that the scoot can't be capable of going faster...

Post by: Rianna on September 19, 2010, 01:48:44 AM
Yeah, in Virginia, if they catch you and give you a ticket it goes against your regular driver's license...even though you are not required to have a driver's license to drive the 50cc. Isn't that weird.

..all these "50" cc scoots are engineered to run faster, and with better performance than the speed laws will allow...
Title: Re: engine swap ?
Post by: oswaldters on September 19, 2010, 01:57:41 AM
It must be a pain for the manufacturers since different states have different top speeds that are legal.

Doesn't seem like the PD worries about it much though.
Title: Re: engine swap ?
Post by: wordslinger on September 19, 2010, 02:03:15 AM
...MOST pd don't..they'd rather you just be able to not be a nuisance...

..the manufacturers have different "builds" for wherevr they are sending that "lot" of scoots...
Title: Re: engine swap ?
Post by: oswaldters on September 19, 2010, 02:06:13 AM
And the best part is that here in MD you can't legally go over 30 mph, but can go on roads with a speed limit up to 50mph.

That sounds safe...
Title: Re: engine swap ?
Post by: wordslinger on September 19, 2010, 02:09:00 AM
..i generally just go as fast as i can....

...no, really....
Title: Re: engine swap ?
Post by: Rianna on September 19, 2010, 02:10:04 AM
Yeah, and then they tell ya to stay "within the flow of traffic" right??? Them funny lawmakers...
Title: Re: engine swap ?
Post by: wordslinger on September 19, 2010, 02:11:53 AM
..yup..if you can..stay in th flow...then you stand a better chance of waking up in THIS world 2moro....

...i generally just go as fast as i can....

Hell ya!

And PD is generally much happier when you aren't a hazard in the roadway - like going 30 in a 45 mph zone.

...as long as you're not doing anything crazy.

..ive had one state trooper and one city cop tell me so....

..itsa true story...

here in MD you can't legally go over 30 mph

In Virginia the legal limit is 35.  So do they have a different CDI in VA?

I wonder how they give you that extra 5 mph?
Title: Re: engine swap ?

Virginia never "gives" anything, lol. It's full of mountains and hills, though, maybe they account for that. Seriously, though, I don't know.

Hmm...I don't think our city's moped laws brochure even mentions "speed".

..then virginia's laws will preside...
Title: Re: engine swap ?
Post by: Rianna on September 19, 2010, 02:45:31 AM
Makes sense...just surprised me. But as far as I know my CDI is the same. The dealer is required to put this awesome (NOT) green sticker on the scoots when they sell them, though.

In lynchburg the moped limit changed last year from 30mph to 35mph . I would not count on all the local leo's knowing that though . Whenever I see one I go 30mph just to be sure .
Title: Re: engine swap ?
Post by: oswaldters on September 19, 2010, 02:53:04 AM
Well I suppose that just because the law says the scoot can legally do 35 doesn't mean that the scoot comes from the dealer set up to go over 30.

Title: Re: engine swap ?
Post by: blue on September 19, 2010, 03:35:16 AM
in michigan the law is a moped needs to go 35 or under and if you scoot has gears that you can shift
its not a moped. they can makes us get a cycle in.

Post just died, try again.
Going back to modding your 50cc engine, if you put on a 50mm cylinder kit and a stroker crank, you have a 125cc engine with 50cc engine number, vin and any other reference to it will all show 50cc. Put in a 125 engine and the engine number will be a 125 engine number. If anyone wants to check, you will be gone for licencing and registration. Though in Australia, they must be registered and you must have a licence, a car licence will cover it.

well damn...

so a 125 will def fit and where not sure about a 150

they do have bbk for the 125 right

and do 125 have 2 shocks or one

now just need to find a 125 motor build it up and drop her in

con not too sure if the a125 is twin shock i have it from good info it is!,keep us all posted on the 125 build if you manage to find one :) im just thinking turbo right now lol :)
Title: Re: engine swap ?

intresting. laws in australia the laws are the same as in Fla. scoots must be registerd but under 50cc no motercycle lisence. but I can go what ever the speedlimit is. if I hit the interstate i can go 70 mph if the scoot would go that fast. hmmmmm well since its registerd as a 50 putting the 125 in it would be great. instead of going with the turbo and feul injection.   still like the idea of the turbo lol just different lol
