Title: how often do you set the valves
Post by: sirrealism on September 18, 2010, 08:09:55 AM
Hi all. love this site!. I have been reading posts for about a week now and have found a lot of great info. My new used scoot has 10800 on the od. It has been sitting for 18 months so I have been throught the carb and oil. Also put a new plug in. It has been unrestricted "CDI, washer removed from the boss, no airbox just a round filter on the carb. when I went through the carb it was so cloged I had to use my micro drill bit set to clean every port. I am hoping to get more out of it "flat ground and tail wind 38mph" oh ya thats a true 38. gps. speedo says 44 lol. I hear a little tapping in the front of the moter. its not much but there is something there. I have read on here they are to be set to .04. I am a transmission rebuilder so its not an issue to do but I have no book on it and have not seen a post on here about how often to do this. I really want a true 45 out of it."brother has a zuma and kicks my ass lol   thanks to everyone for all the great info.

Thanks omfg. I picked up this scoot by acident. I did not know about the quality of the scoot. i thought it was just a china POS.untill I had a customer in my shop and he is big into scoots and told me about it. It wasnt running until he told me and I found this site. I just hope I can find a way to make it faster then my brothers zuma so he will quite giving me crap because its not a jap bike. I have been told that its going to be hard to beat him anyway with the zuma being a 2 stroke. I do have to admite that 0 to 10 that thing is damm fast. thanks for the welcome.

lol sounds a bit like my story that bud. Before i got my agility i was riding a gilera ice 50 2t toped out at 57 mph on the flat got to 30 mph in around 2 seconds, infact up to owning the a50 i never owned a 4t scoot in my life,so when i got my unmolested (unrecorded write off!!!!) a50 i was gutted after rebuilding the front end a stonking 28mph wtf :o,i felt like i was walking lol,a few mods and advise from the great guys & girls on here and lone behold 45 mph a 17mph jump for £40 is a pretty good investment in my book, theres still tonnes i can do to it including the valves thats why i will be keeping an eye on this post.I can tell you that you will get some top advise on here and that people are patient and seem to go out there way to help you its a great site the best in my opinion.Rock on dude and again welcome to the kymco bretherand  :) ps i did not see you mention the carb had been upjetted if its standard it will be either 80 or 82 with your filter you wanna be running 90 to 96 let me know how you get on keep us all posted.tc :)

Sorry forgot to mention take a look at wordslingers post on drilling your oem exhaust i aint tried it myself yet but seriously thinking about it that should give you a lil more mph with the correct jetting, thats after you sort the valve issue out bud  :)

Hi, sirrealism, Welcome. I've only had my agility for a little over a week and never had a scoot before, so I can't give you any advice, but stick around here for a little while and you will be giving your brother a run for his money in no time! Good luck.

Thank you very much Conley. i will be setting those on monday. I went with a full synthetic 5w20. any chance i am just 2 thin.    Does anyone have a good place to get a tack from. What is redline for these moters. "I know has to be not to rich not to lean". Has anyone ever seen a forced induction on a scoot?   Anyone ever put a o2 sensor on one. I would love to see one fuel injucted? I know some of this is a little crazy but if I had a super charger on my radio controled truck, i dont see why I cant do this for a scoot.

INJUCTED
Injected or not,5w 20 wtf stop use it as engine flush, and get yourself some nice 10w 40s.Unless your seriously racing your a50 thin......you bet bud :)

WOW Conley that site just got me so excited my girlfriend thought the bucs got a touchdown lol. this site is the best. can any one tell me why not to use such thin oil. is this moter that loose. if it is a loose moter then i understand but then i am suprised that everyone is getting the miles on them. I am really new to the scoots. I have had many old honda small moters like the 62 sport 50 i have now and i would happly run 10 w 30 in any of them and that is normal oil. when you go synthetic "at least in cars" you can go down in weight. someone please correct me if i am wrong but al multi viscositi oil starts out as "10w40" 40 weight when cold and 10 weight when hot. i live in central Fla. If I lived in a cold climate i could see wanting the thicker oil in the cold. but cold here is 65 degrees.  I am not trying to start an oil debate just want one of the guys that have been here for a long time to coment on this. i love this site and thanks to everyone for the warm welcome.
Title: Re: how often do you set the valves
Post by: CONLEY on September 19, 2010, 08:41:02 PM
heavy oil is better in the heat oil tends to thin out when hot

example freeze some oil get it nice and cold pour it out look and see how thick it is

now the oppisite get some nice hot oil and pour it out nice and thin

stick with the heavier oil especially down there

Title: Re: how often do you set the valves
Post by: omfgdotcodotuk on September 19, 2010, 09:24:20 PM
But when you think about it under real terms the oil is gonna be magma anyways when you ride normal, all that energy and friction converts to heat and thats were we all get stumped out,an aftermarket oil cooler would help you sort that, sorry im in tuning mode ??? ???
Title: Re: how often do you set the valves
Post by: sirrealism on September 19, 2010, 11:20:49 PM
thanks for all the input on the subject. I do wonder if that thought doesnt change at least some with synthetic but you all have much more time with scoots then me and the last thing I want to do is throw a bearing for not having heavy enuff oil. When I am checking the valves on monday I will change the oil back out to a 10w40. thanks again.

Ok got a reply from MBE Motorsports about the turbo. He said,Hi Brant, I have not tried it on the 50cc yet but I think it might be too
small an engine. I have a customer who is running a turbo on a 50cc 2 stroke
and only getting about 1.5 psi of boost and a 2 stroke has twice the exhaust
as a 4 stroke. It might help if you pit a 52mm (90cc) big bore kit on it.

So I think the turbo is out. But I have A crazy idea lol. not going to tell anyone about it yet untill I do my reserch about it. dont want to look like a moron lol

LOL thanks for the encoragement but if I go over 50cc then you have to have a motorcycle licence in FL so I wont be doing that. I will give out some of my idea. Why not a ram air system. It would be simple to do and since an engine is nothing more then an air pump and its all about getting air in and out "with the right amount of fuel mixed in" A turbo or a super charger just forces air in. We are n ot talking about big gains but as I have read on this site so many times every little bit counts. I am going to build it next week and will take pics of my build and post them. also will try to do some runs with and with out to see if I get any gains.  If anyone has any ideas I would apreciate any input.

..i've been thinnking about that a bit lately as well...
Title: Re: how often do you set the valves
Post by: sirrealism on September 23, 2010, 09:27:59 PM
looks like its time to do something about this forced induction thing. I am going to do the ram air thing wile I design my forced air device. I am going to have to use a tps sensor but I need one that will run 12 volts and not just 5 like the ones on cars. I am wondering about the guy that is using a turbo on a 50 cc 2 stroke and getting 1.5 pounds of boost, what kind of performance gains he is getting. I am going to email that turbo company now but takes a few days to get a reply. If I can get 3 pounds of boost I think that would be a big increase in performance"once again with the right amount of fuel. i have a buddy with a 4 gas anilizer that should do the trick so I am not plug choping for days lol.

very nice wordslinger so what did you get for performance increase. I have a little different idea but I like yours a lot
Title: Re: how often do you set the valves
Post by: wordslinger on September 24, 2010, 01:41:16 AM
..itsa simple setup that worked great, with one holdup...

..i had a 3/4" npt, free-flow brass muffler, inline of the induction tube, serving as an air filter...

..the cooling fan inducts a lot of "trash"...

..i had difficulty maintaining consistant air-flow, due to the muffler clogging...

..with it installed, and the carb tuned to it, my scoot performed as best as it ever has...

..and i still had the oem exhaust..

..air-flow increases as engine/fan speed increases, as fuel intake increases...

..it was not very difficult to tune...until the airflow began to decrease due to the muffler getting dirty...

Title: Re: how often do you set the valves
Post by: sirrealism on September 24, 2010, 02:02:17 AM
just a thought but did you think about filtering before the fan. it might have stuck out some but i really like that it runs even with the motor.
Title: Re: how often do you set the valves
Post by: wordslinger on September 24, 2010, 02:05:58 AM
..i did, and i didn't want to restrict ANY airflow that i need for cooling my engine...

..i have a pretty good idea for the cooler winter weater...filtering and forcing air into the cooling fan..

..been afraid to give it a try in all this heat this summer...

..these engines runn too hot already...

I have to give you credit. the thought of putting a EGR on a scoot is really cool. well its not a true egr but close enuff   You said that it runs better then ever before. what kind of speed are you getting. I know I can push this to get 45 to 50 but I want it to keep that kind of speeds into a good head wind. I hate that in a good head wind I cant get more then about 32 33. but if the wind is at my back I get 42. I am sure I need to jet up. I filled my tank today and wasnt able to put a gallon in and had gone 135 km. too lean lol
Title: Re: how often do you set the valves
Post by: wordslinger on September 24, 2010, 10:57:52 PM
..i don't know of any mod, that has allowed me to maintain speed in a headwind..

..i usually have my feet on the passenger footrests, left arm across the instrument panel, chin damned near on my arm to create less drag...

..i've hit 60 indicated, with my current setup that includes a modified oem exhaust..

..i was hitting 55 easy, and 45-50 with the induction and fully stock exhaust...with a 108, i believe, main jet...

..take-off and acceleration thru mid range performance was all better with the induction...

..only way i know of to maintain uphill and into the wind is to ..put a kit on dat bitch!!...

 ;D

thanks Art. I am going to order that set monday. Well I thought i need to jet up but I was wrong. I drilled my jet out to a .039 "Micro drill set" and it was to much. It is loading up and I cant get past 30 mph. so I have the cdi cut and a k&n air filter right on the carb so what jet should I get? is there a jet kit with many jets?
Title: Re: how often do you set the valves
Post by: wordslinger on September 27, 2010, 01:34:36 AM
... a .039 is a "99" jet...and i generally add 1-2 thousandths for human drilling error...

..which would put you close to a 101-102....
Title: Re: how often do you set the valves
Post by: sirrealism on September 28, 2010, 12:46:13 AM
Ok some times I can do some stupid things. it bothered me that my scoot ran so bad with the jet drilled to 101-102. its not that much more then most of the scoots on here that have been modded. but I thought just go smaller. so I did. after I put it in I realized that when I had it apart the last time I didnt hook the vacume back up. doooo!!!! runs much better now lol
