Hi, new to this forum :)
Turned 16 a few months back, so as ive now started college I need transport to get there because its quite a treck away, so I got myself a Kymco Super 8 50cc 4 Stroke!
Just a few questions I would like to be answerd please :)
Firstly, the moped is only a 57 plate (so it was made, late 2007) and it only has 3600 miles on it! which brings me to my first question, usually (in the UK) the odometer is in MPH as that is the primary reading on most UK vehicals, but because the moped displays both KMH and MPH I dont no what the odometer is reading, is it 3600 Miles or 3600 Kilometers?
Secondly its not licenced or anything as I got it today (thursday) and I need to take my CBT test yet. I would like to know what speed the moped is capable of, Restricted. Am I right in saying about 30 to 32 MPH or just dead on 30?
Ive had a look round the forum and theres plently to pick up on about de restricing, but I was wondering about this Rev Limiter? Is this there just to limit the speed to 30 or is it purley like a car rev limiter and is there to stop the engine over reving and damaging itself? As I dont want to do this and find out the valves have been smashed to pieces!
Also what else is there that I can remove or change to add performance to the moped?

..well, welcome to th' forum Cardie!!
..first, get used to riding your scoot...before you soop it up..lol..
..those speeds are pretty much normal for a restricted 4t...
..the odometer is in kilometers for every 50cc kymco i've ever seen or heard of...
..the restrictions are in place to make your scoot bow down to the "local" speed laws..it is designed to perform waaay better...
..get your riding skills up while restricted...for at least a little while...hang out here and learn everything you can..then..when you're ready, we'll help you make it run like it's engineered to..

I always knew them as mopeds! Anyway once I pass my CBT i'll see what its really like :) Cheers for the replys, what sort of top speed would it have completly stock?

Yeah, a little over 30mph sounds about right, Cardie. Wow, a Super 8 at 16!!! I'm jealous, I didn't get my first scooter 'til I turned 43, lol. hahaha. You are gonna love it! What color is it? You have a pic of it yet? Good luck on your test! :)

..the bigger bore's are mostly ppl that have tired of all the clutching and shifting..

Is it safe to just cut this rev limiter wire, I mean, is it there to stop the engine over revving or just to limit the power? Can an engine of this size actually over rev or just get to its own natureal limit? I dont want to take it out and give it full throttle and find that the engine overheats or smashes the valves to pieces at 14,000 RPM!

Cheers :) In England you are allowed a Scooter at 16, I needed to get one to get from college and back, when im 17 im allowed by law to drive a car :)

yup. Check the how to and other areas. You can cut deep on that side of the cdi and not have a problem.

What about this bolt in the middle of the heat shield on the exhaust? Is this holding anything inside the exhaust or just a service hole or restricting the air flow out of the exhaust?

..it holds nothing...it's there for emissions checking...
