Title: Like 200i Removing Decals and Lettering
Post by: DanH on August 09, 2019, 08:42:37 PM
New owner of a 2018 Like 200i in San Diego, CA. It is black with silver decals and plastic silver letters on the rear side panels. $3000.00 out the door - two weeks ago. Loving it, so far, for 16 whole miles.

The only thing I don't like about the scooter is the color scheme makes me look like a Raider fan and I'm getting tired of Charger fans signalling that I'm number one.

I would appreciate any tips on how to remove the decals and the plastic silver letters. My concerns are what is beneath the decals (glue) and lettering (holes). Will the sides be smooth as the rest of the panel if I do this right?

In the absence of any advice, I intend to just remove the dot on top of the letter "i" (as a test) because it is not connected to rest of the Like 200i plastic letters.

I removed all the warning stickers from my Like but not the chrome letters. I used WD-40 on the stickers and let them "soak" a bit before peeling them off. I then cleaned up the residual glue with Goo-Gone. The paint was left with no marks and I finished by waxing with Turtle Wax spray and shine. I have heard of people using thin fishing line to lift the chrome letters and then polishing after but have no personal experience. Good luck!

I have used fishing line on my other bikes to remove those things.  Works like a charm.  Just follow up with the WD-40 after to clean off the residue.

If your model has the matte finish....I'd test an area to insure that the finish is not marred by what ever substance you use for removal, cleaning or polishing.
Some matte finishes are easily marked.
Although, my experience has been that Kymco uses good quality paint on the LIKE's panels.

The silver lettering just peels off.  Then you need to use alcohol or goo gone or something to get rid of the residue.  I just kept wiggling mine around it it started to break free and peeled it off

Thanks to members of the community for the answers. The scooter is matte black. I'll heat up the plastic letters with a hair dryer and start peeling them back with fishing line, then follow up with goo-gone or WD-40. I'll start with the dot above the letter "i" since it stands alone from the rest.

Then I'll stand back and take another look at the racing stripes (grey).

I play with the script, rather than removing them.
Currently I'm riding an "iie2k00L"
I  too   cool

I removed the plastic silver letters. Notice the ghost effect of the glue.

Here's what the project looked like after applying Goo-Gone.

After 7 years I've gotten comfortable with the name of my scooter. I'd miss it.
Sorry you two had a falling out.

Just removed the chrome lettering on my Like 200 using braided fishing line, thumbnail, and Goo Gone.  Excellent results, looks great.  It always bothered me a bit that the lettering was placed on there very crooked (slight OCD here) and Kymco has a very odd choice of names for their bikes.  BUT very pleased with overall quality of this scooter.

And here's the wide-angle view.

Looks much cleaner w/o the lettering.
