just put 3 -5.5 and 3- 6 in my scoot . runs good going up hills at 35 to 40 but takes longer to get my top end speed back on flats ground I had 6 in at frist should I go back to all 6 or try 3 -5 and 3 5.5
or all 6 5.5 I like the climping up hills at 35 or better but also like my top end better . what do you thing I should do. thanks.
-
Try all 6 5.5 rollers.
-
...5.5s work well with the stock airbox...
-
ill give it a try thanks
-
..my 4.7 Leos are pretty much shot..
..just swapped them out for some slightly better 4.5s....
-
A question for ya wordslinger. When dialing in you variator, why use different weights, if for example you put in 3 6 gram weights and 3 5.5 gram weights, what are the 5.5 ones going to do. Only the 6 gram ones will be effectively operating the variator, all i can see the 5.5s doing is adding to the flywheel effect. Am I looking at this wrong?
-
....the 5.5's will tend to sling out with less effort from the engine...
..tape a dime to the end of a 2 ft string...then try to sling it in a circle...
..now remove the dime, and tape a quarter...again, sling it in a circle...
..it takes less effort to sling the dime, right??..
..and..different flywheel weight WILL have a similar effect!!..
-
but you will have 18 grams pushing the variator out and 16.5 grams just spinning, not really doing any work.
-
..but they will do work!!
..sssso...what if you take either the 5.5s, or the 6s out..and then pop in some 3 grams in their place....
..reckon that might make a difference?...
..it's still relative weight...
..ttrue, one set will work harder..but the weight difference is the key...
-
Yeah, I see your point, but I'm still not entirely convinced. Must be that nightshift thing. :D
-
..but that just explains how a variator tuning kit works..i gota cpl of them...
..you can dial in your optimum roller weight, then get you some rollers in THAT total weight, divided by 6...
..it works...
..for my scoot, 4.5s gives awesome take-off and decent accelleration through mid range...
..4.7s give decent take-off and great acceleration through mid...
..5 grams gives a bearable take-off..decent mid range, but has more torque when running flat out...
..it's all about where you want it the most...
..top speeds are the same for all three......
-
I havent tried that, I have just used roller sets. Might give it a try when I get a chance.
-
..it's kinda like fine-tuning what your engine / clutch is most comfortable at....
..you can do it best if you know what your actual rpms are at your set-ups best powerband..
..but you can tune by ear as well...
-
Yeah, far better with a tacho, I am going to have to go to a smaller jet, now with the 2000 springs she is hitting a splutter right at engagement. I was able to ride around it before. Weather is getting cooler, does that sound right?
-
..i would think that with cooler, more dense air, you would need to go larger with your jet..
..to equal out the fuel / air ratio..
-
is there a right and a wrong way to put rollers in mine have blue on one sode and silver on the other side is this for a reason.if so which way do they go in.
-
..when looking into the variator at the rollers...flipped around, from how it's installed in your scoot...
..place rollers into variator with the extra material on the 12 o'clock roller's left-hand side...repeat orientation for all other rollers.....
..that is the roller's "driven" side...
..the extra material, if there..(some rollers don't have a different side, and don't really matter when new)..is to reduce wear from the drivng force of the variator ramp sides...
-
great thanks and just to let you know you are a good help to me and others im sure on this web site and thats great thanks again.
-
..y' wecc'm blue...just sharing what i'v learned bro....
;)
-
whoa. :o word just taught me something ELSE. i never new anything about the roller position. ??? :-\ i gotta check mine, usually just toss em in. :D yeah, i have tried mixing rollers myself, GOTTA get one of those kits tho. :-\ hey word, you got my attention with your air/jetting words ....go bigger now thats cooler????? come holla at me about this here or in carb thread...plz,plz,plz. ::) ;D
-
ok I tryed 3 - 5.5 with 3 6 didnot like took my top end down. put all 6- 5.5 in and I now like
got my top end back.think ill stick with all 6 tha same it just sounds right also not to sure about the mixing things up. ( find something you like stay with it.)
-
Yeah, wordslinger has talked me into it. With my 6 gram sliders I lost too much top, with my 7 gram rollers I have it back but a small loss on pickup. So I will try 3 6gram and 3 7gram rollers and if that works I will buy the 6.5 gram sliders.
-
So I will try 3 6gram and 3 7gram rollers and if that works I will buy the 6.5 gram sliders.
..woo-hooo!!
..now, keep in mind, there are *.7 gram rollers out there, if you REALLY want to dial in!!!
;D
-
Shot down in flames.....but, watch me bounce back.:)
-
yep, i got me some of them .7s.. :D 5.7 leo vance, of course im needing some 5.1s or 5.5s.....imagine that. ::)
-
..my leos didn't last as long as th malossis...
..just thot id say that...
..but then, i've ran it a bit harder with th' leos......
..nevermind............
-
I have 5, 6, 7 and 8.5 gram rollers to play with, without having to spend any money, but then I could put in some 6 gram dr. pulley sliders too. Just for fun..:-)
-
..i only have some 4.5, 4.7 (shot) and 5.5 rollers...
..but i have 6 "shells" (i drove the weights outta some 9 gr rollers i had), that i can put some of the weights from my tuning kit into..
..i change weights around every time i re-jet...just to see what happens...
-
my 5.5 keepd me climping hills at 35 to 40 and my top end is more like 45 to 50 on a day with little wind.
but with the wind to my back look out I need bigger spedometer. but it also helps if I keep extra air in the tires to keep my speed up.
-
..TIRES!!
..glad you said that blue...
..tire pressure makes a BIG difference..
..i keep mine checked every cpl of weeks...
-
my 5.5 keepd me climping hills at 35 to 40 and my top end is more like 45 to 50 on a day with little wind.
..that's great blue...
..when i was running the oem airbox and the 5.5s those were my results as well....
..we will forever be a slave to wind speed and direction...
:-\
..it's the nature of the beasties...
;)
-
Yep, just at different speeds.
-
..yup..any 49.5cc is gonna hurt in a headwind...
-
talken about air box could I use this on my agilty or would I have to rejet.if you notice the end of the filter its smaller then the hose from the air box so the air box hose would go over the end would that work.
-
..blue, if you're thinking about swapping out the oem airbox for a free-flow filter yeah, you're gonna have to increase the diameter of your carb's main jet...
..and, if you do take that step, i would suggest a K&N filter....
..i got the kn part number here somewhere.....
-
ok thanks ill just leave it be .when some thing works good why make it worse.
-
the air box hose would go over the end would that work.
..however, even this filter , if it fits, would probably be a performance increase....
..you'ld still need to upjet...
-
..dude..i'd say GO FOR IT!!..
.if it's something you have in your house...and you make it work..
..then itsa FREE performance ehancing MOD!!!..
-
well I do have a extra jet laying around also guess I can try it. ill just have to keep a eye on the plug to see if its running lean or not
-
hey blue.....youll be glad you did, if you do.. :D ;) i bit the bullet myself, i even make my jets.. ;D i love this place. ;D :-*
-
Y'all are so creative. I love it. If I shipped any one of you all a squeaky little mouse you'd be on here postin' and chattin' all evening and have him charging like a raging bull by the morning. :D

so if I go for it with the open filter how do they stay dri when your on wet roads.
-
Last decent rain mine got wet and blocked, wont run like that. Four stroke might have more sucking power.
-

lol ya sounds like we all dont have much of a life but scooter chat.
-
i would be the low man on THAT totem pole.. :D :D id have to stare at and stratch my head for a few days...... ;D :D :D hey blue, you wont have an issue unless its an absolute downpour...i ride in rain with no problems, i do blow out the air filter before i leave if already raining...
-
ya the last scoot I had a open filter on I just cut a 2 liter pop bottle in half and placed over top on wet days worked good as long as you leave room for air to get in.
-
i do know they make a open filter that has a colored cover over the element for such reasons. cant remember yet if provo or mh has them.
-
I don't think mine was soaked from the rain directly, I think it was from moisture being sucked in.
-
thats true...if my side panels are on, it only gets that moisture, but if panels are off, it can get drowned. ;D ;)
-

..we'd call him Speedy Gonzales....
..arrriba!!!
:o
..dang..what a life...
-
thats true...if my side panels are on, it only gets that moisture, but if panels are off, it can get drowned. ;D ;)
so other wise if I keep the filter under the plastic I should be good I can do that.
-
..gotta know where the rear tire spins the wetnass toward...
..and deflect it if necessary..
-
woulden you know now that I wana do this I cant find my extra jet.darn it all.
-
..i've lost two jets...
..it's what got me drilling and soldering them....
..now, thats all i do...
-
I hate when that happens. Maybe he's just hiding from you, blue. Afraid you'll put him to work.
-
..currently drilled to a 104 on my guilty...
-
I hate when that happens. Maybe he's just hiding from you, blue. Afraid you'll put him to work.
lol its a she just like a women to run from me and hide.she well come out when she needs something thats the way it works lol.
-
Well, that explains it all. lol
-
..i reckon i refer to my scoot like a girl...
..i love her....
:-*

..i reckon i refer to my scoot like a girl...
..i love her.... lol --alot I could say about this but I better keep it clean like I do my scoot. love
mine too
