I've been riding scooters since 2006, and prior to my Yager I've owner a Yamaha Vino 125 and a Kawasaki Ninja 500R... I also have a Yamaha Morphous that I got in 2007. Neither of the Yammies had noisy belts like the Yager. My Yager's belt (or should I say, the belt/transmission housing area) makes a noticable (but not *extremely* loud) WOOOOOOOooooooooh when I back off the throttle from say, 45mph (~6k rpm) and begin to brake to a stop. At first I thought it might be the rear brake dragging or tire noise, but I had someone help me and I put the bike on the center stand and revved it up to 5 grand then closed the throttle, and sure enough, a WOOOOOOooooooh type whirring sound came from inside where the belt goes. Is this normal for a Kymco, or do I need to have the thing looked at? I have about 450 miles on it so far and I have done all the break-in services per the manual, including changing the transmission oil.

A125 behaved in similar manner when it was new, you could literally HEAR the belt when backing off the throttle. With time it stopped.

My Xciting 500 does it very loudly when letting off. Has for all the 4000 miles I've had it now. That doesn't mean it's normal though. I don't know. ;D

..my kymcos have "whirred" since day one...

For me I'm starting to hear a rubbing sound from my front wheel. I think it's the disk brake/pad. Anyone know if this is common?

Yeah, I've noticed that, too (about the brake). The pads seem to be kind of rough, but also I've noticed the caliper will "wiggle" if you grab it, which seems odd. My Yamaha's is perfectly tight. Haven't had time to check the bolts.

My old scooter did that with a new belt, but it subsided after the belt had worn-in a bit (if you're running a Kevlar belt, it might take a couple thousand miles for it to subside).
Oddly enough, for a long road-trip once, we rented a Jeep Liberty that had the CVT transmission, and it made the exact same noise!
