Title: Kenda K413 Tire after 2 years and 5,000 miles
Post by: mrbios on July 19, 2019, 08:10:18 PM
See attached.  The longest lasting tire was the OEM brand that came on the scooter but I can't remember the brand or model of those tires.  Does anyone remember or have a GV250 / Bet & Win 250?

Kymco's been using Kendas as their OEM tire on many of their smaller scooters for years. A hard nylon tire, they last a long time for most riders.

My '06 B&W was shod with Maxxis.  Just replaced the original tires this spring with 158 miles on them.  Looked fine, but too old to be safe.

Replaced with Michelin Power Pures, one of the few brands that I could get matching front and rears.  I don't particularly like them, what with the tread that follows the circumference of the tire.

I could have gotten the Kenda 413's - I like them on my 70cc two strokes.  Good to see you got decent wear out of them.

I can't remember what tires came on my Grandvista 250 but I think it might have been Maxxis.  They lasted the longest of all the tires 7,000 miles!  The other tire was the Avon Viper Stryke which lasted 8K but was totally bald.

Is that the dark side?  It looks like a car tire.

Yup! It IS a car tire. Alligent 155/80R13 made in Indonesia (used to be made in Isreal). Seems to work well so far...

Do they or anyone make a car tire for that would fit my rear tire 140/70P-12?  Love dark side rear tires.  I'm imagining putting one on my kymco in 2011 and still using the same tire!  Is that tire a radial?

I think the outer surface of that car tyre looks way too flat to be used on a scooter. The rounder the outer surface of a tyre, the better the scooter will be handled around corners or curved roads.

Before my scooter’s previous rear tyre has been replaced the outer surface was worn, and quite flat due to normal wear. The outer surface of the new tyre (Michelin City Grip) is much rounder, and handling the scooter around corners or curved roads suddenly became very different, and a big pleasure.

I think the low centre of gravity on scooters is one of the reasons why tires with a more rounded outer surfaces contributes to so much better handling  on scooters in general.

After breaking my shoulder when my Moto-Guzzi Eldorado spun out due to a cheapo Chinese tire with inadequate grip I now always buy the "stickiest" sport tires available. They don't last long but that's the price one pays for more grip. I suppose on scooters we don't need sport tires due to a more conservative upright ride and less weight. Auto tires are not designed to be ridden on the edges; I'd be scared to have to make a fast leaned-over turn on one. My 2 cents worth...

Yes, steel belt radial, two or three plies in tread belt, one rayon ply in sidewall. This brand and style lasting over 30k miles in Burgman 400's!
