I'm guessing I have an unrestricted one.
Because the scooter is a 2007, but the sticker on the black box says May 2008 and doesn't look to be cut or anything. Do they sell them unrestricted?
-
..nope, they don't...not in th' states..
-
ya if you buy the raceing cdi box. but it just as good if you cut it your self.
-
..could you post a pic of your cdi and wiring??..
-
k, give me a minute on the pic. They did say it was already de-restricted. hmmm
Can't wait to get it up on the higher road here and see how fast it goes. It's not a real long road but longer than mine where I can only get up to about 28 before I have to slow back down. brb
-
..28..i'd doubt that your scoot is fully "derestricted"...
-
lol, i mean because I run out of road :D
-
Okay, I had to do it a bunch of times to try and get the numbers on the sticker to show up. I guess the flash messes it up. If you can't make them out, this is what it says:
30410-LBD6-E00
2008.MAY
-
Just looks like a regular box to me, blue. I googled the numbers, but didn't see anything special 'bout it. Maybe they lied, lol. Wouldn't be the first time I ever heard of a dishonest sales person.
-
I can't help ya there. They may not have been totaly dishonest might have done the boss at least.
-
Yes, if the variator boss is derestricted, that would be enough to call the scoot derestricted, some people don't like to do the cdi for fear of over revving the engine. I wouldn't call them liars. You will be able to decide if you want to do this, if it was already done, you would not have that choice.
-

..same as mine, except for the date...
..to derestrict it, you'll need to cut the corner of the casing...
-
I just took a small saw and cut a slot in the middle of it inbetween the front corners.Had the same box sense 07
-
Yep, you need to cut it.
Sounds a lot more traumatizing than it is. And it will make a big difference.
-
..like this...
-
Sorry to go against you blokes on this, but I don't think this would be too high on her list of priorities. Once she has learnt to ride the scoot and is comfortable with it, then she can decide if she wants more speed. If the variator has been derestricted, then that should be enough for comuting.
-
Yes Sid, that is a good point to consider.
I did wait on derestricting my scoot until after I was comfortable riding it.
-
True, true. There's just not much I can take apart and look at with it indoors and it was indoors most of the day yesterday with the rain, so I started looking to see what I could see. I was surprised when I got to it and looked at it. It wasn't a big selling point for it, anyway, I asked about it at the last minute not at all expecting them to say it was already derestricted. Gonna try and get it up to the higher road here soon where I've got an extra block of fairly straight street and see how fast it rides up there. See how it feels before I decide. I will probably wait on it a bit anyway. You all keeping me cautious here, lol.
-
Yep, safety first.
-
I nominate Sid for safety officer!
See how this group think stuff works? Just like Mommy said, before you know it we're all jumping off bridges because someone told us to do it.
-
slinger how you upload pictures please? got my cdi deresticted see new post, just dont know how to upload pics gorrrrd darn it ::)

The 35mph thing isn't bad to learn on,but in the real world it's just to slow in traffic and haveing no boost to get you out of harms way can be trouble.
That said it will be great in the neighborhod to get the basics down. Deffinetly put some miles on close to home to start. Once you have some confidence you will see the need for speed ;D :D ;)
-
Oh, yeah, where I live everything is 25 mph and 35 mph unless I wanna go across town. That will come in time, I'm sure. But within 3 miles or so of home I can now go to the post office, the bank, 2 grocery stores, 3 restaurants and a 7-11 convenient store. If I go a little farther like up to 6 miles, there's a larger grocery store, a Walgreen's pharmacy, Subway, Pizza Hut, a pawn shop and a small library where I could check out DVD movies and books. It's all on one road. So for me, if I have to keep that "Need for Speed" in check for a little while, I will still have a lot of freedom that I didn't have the past 2 years. I couldn't be happier about it.
Hey, I adjusted that back brake before I went out today. That nut was almost all the way out to the end. Looked like you could just twist it a time or two and it would be off. No wonder it felt like there was a lot of play in it...there was! lol
Made me feel good, like I did something. I adjusted my own brake. haha
-
Ha! cool. Yep as you venture further the you will want some more speed ,but yep stay close and get a feel for it first. Traffic is a whole new world at first :o And they do not see you ;)
-
If you haven't already done so, you should check out this little booklet on scooter riding
http://www.msf-usa.org/downloads/Scooter_tips-screen.pdf (http://www.msf-usa.org/downloads/Scooter_tips-screen.pdf)
Basic information, but I did find it useful when I first started riding.

Hey, thanks, oswaldters. I had thought about taking one of their beginner's motorcycle courses, even though it's a bit far away where they hold it, but they said it was full up here until mid October on the local website. Motorcycle is the only endorsement I don't have on my driver's license. I'd love to have the bragging rights. lol. I'll give that book a read, though and see what I can learn.
Good to know, art. Hey, maybe I can find me a hot pink sweater to wear with those knee-high black platform goth boots. I can see it now. :D
-
Ha! you will get noticed but may cause a whole new range of traffic problems for 1/2 the drivers :D
-
lol, art. 2 funny. Hey, I see what you mean now, though. I went down to the police station today to get my plate. (They made me wait ALL *&%# DAY!) Them drivers are crazy! LOL. A few more mph for when you need it really wouldn't hurt. In the morning it wasn't too bad, except for the bus driver who tried to squeeze into my lane and then rode my ass and pissed me off until I pulled over to the side of the road a couple blocks early. Oops, sorry, I mean he really ticked me off. You know they were taught better than that. It was okay, though, cuz you know I had to get off and push the scoot up that last hill on the sidewalk so they didn't see me driving up. hehehee
The afternoon was a bit hairier. Heavier faster moving traffic, stoplight on an upward hill (I had to use the coasting trick on that one and I got lucky - this time,) Cobblestone patches in the middle of intersections, but not all along the road in downtown (who thought up that bright idea,) Construction ON the bridge all the way across, those weird metal zig zag plate thingies every few feet on the bridge, humongous never-ending hill with a line of cars behind me from where we were stopped at a light and wind that I did not expect. Why did I think the wind wouldn't try to push me around on the road a bit? And a big white truck right on my behind. I cut off and took some back roads when I got close to home. Then some SUV lady tried to turn into my lane on a side street, not even looking where she was going. I was tired and ready to get home.
I can see that if I want to venture out past my neighborhood often I will have to get good at this quick and stay alert. And yes, some additional speed couldn't hurt. But I made it there and back safely and I'm legal. Oh yeah, and I stopped at the store again on the way home just so I could say I reached my goal and made it up that hill and to the store before I ran out of toilet paper. That double roll 4-pack fits nicely in the underseat box. ;D

..yay...!!!
;D

..yup..be aware of everything going on around you....
..that little bit of extra from the cdi cut could come in handy.....
-
maybe I can find me a hot pink sweater to wear with those knee-high black platform goth boots.
..wowwww..........
:o

And to think we've been wasting our time trying to increase our visibility by putting on extra lights...
-
..lol..i know right!!..
..i ain't wearing no pink sweater tho!!!
:o
-
Yeah....I think I'll go wire some more lights....
-
...GOOD IDEA!!!

See...There's more than one way to skin a cat.

Y'all crack me up. I can picture that police officer that stopped you the other day trying to keep a straight face while looking over your scoot if you had one on then. He might have let you go sooner. Figure you would have a rough enough day anyway going in to work dressed like that. lol
-
..i'd not make it to work...well, maybe TO work, caus it's dark then...
..but i can just see me rollin' up at th' plant.......mm hmmm..
:-\
-
So no "don't ask, don't tell" policy at work?
-
..i reckon not...
..big guy like me roll up in there wearing this big hot pink sweater??!!....
..yeah...lmao..
..they ain't gonna be no askin'....
-
I gonna be gigglin' over that one all nite...lol
-
..but really...you ready to cut that thing or not??..
:D
..only you really know...
-
Hey, what I need for that, just a regular hacksaw? I been looking and looking for my tools. I think they up and walked off. I know I gave some to my son to put in the back of his car, but not things like the drill. I tore apart the laundry room thinking maybe some would turn up in there, but so far all I found was like 2 hammers, some sockets, a couple screwdrivers, a flashlight without batteries and a staple gun. lol. Anything but what I want.
You might as well go ahead and tell me what to do, because you know it won't be long. I can always borrow a tool if need be. :D
-
..there's pics and stuff earlier on this thread...lol..
..whenever you're ready!!..
;D
-
Okay, but if I mangle it, I ain't postin' no pic. lol
-
..as long as it works , who cares??
..i seen some ground all the way to the circuit board's components...
-
:o
Okay, now I'll have to post a pic just to see how bad I did...
-
...i didnt even do mine...my dealer did...
-
Cheater, lol. I thought I saw a picture around here somewhere with it cut on the bottom side. I can see it on the smooth top side in your pic, though. Yup, if I do mine it will have all them scratch marks, too. I'll make sure of it.
-
..no, don't do it like mine...
..do it like this...
-
wha...what the heck is that?! lolol
-
..it's a pic of a cut cdi..from it's cut end...lol..
..some of the epoxy on top is poured differently than others...lol..
..it's shiny!!...
-
Ahhh, could be just the reflection or glare. For a second it looked like somebody poured some acid or sumthin' on it.
-
..th cut...
-
Wow, and that worked? That doesn't look very deep at all, really.
-
And don't forget to cover over the cut after it is made.
Keep the water out.
-
..it's all y' gotta do...
-
And don't forget to cover over the cut after it is made.
..or cut it in two places...an inch or so apart...
..mine stays dry anyways...
-

lol you could always use a finger nail file lol
-
It is pretty soft material.
I used a utility knife to do it.
-
lol you could always use a finger nail file lol
lol, blue, don't get me started on stories about rigging things up to make something work. lol. Ever get your fingers stuck in the super glue you were using to "make" something work? ;) I got some JB Weld stories that are good for a few laughs. lol
Seriously, though, what should I cover the cut with? I got some bulldog grip stuff around here somewheres. Tell me what works and I might could find it without having to wait 'til payday to buy it.
I used a utility knife to do it.
Oh, cool, I gots me a few of those, lol. A neighbor stopped by last night and told me I could use their tools come the weekend. They gots Everything, like a tool warehouse. I'll be modding in no time. ;D
-

Like Word, my cdi doesn't get wet, so I just put some good old fashioned electrical tape over it. Just in case...
-
Cool, thank you, I have a little bit of electrical tape left. ;D
-
..cover...go ahead...but this is mine...lol...
..i'm just sayin'...
;)
-
;D Yep! I guess it can't hurt :D If your this deep in the drink you will have other thing to worry about
-

lmao. You do make a good point there, art!
-
So did you cut it? And if you did.. did it work? I tried mine and can't tell any change.. maybe I didn't cut deep enough?
