Today new helmet came in the mail---RS found on internet, shipped from Chicago, $39.95 shipped.
Light/comfortable helmet important to me.....my neck has been screwed up since 1990 deer hit in Switzerland wearing heavy Schubert full face helmet, maybe weighing 4 lbs.
My present helmet inventory, GMAX 3/4 new this spring, Z1R 3/4 on way out used it on ride to James Bay Road in Quebec last year...very comfortable, with long-long bill worked well on my CB300F with windshield built up from 2 Puig screens ( face close to tip of shield), Vega 200 3/4 full face shield...heavy, retired today.
New RS, lite maybe 2 lbs, has full face shield, drop down sun shield and in addition BILL that makes riding into sun easy and safe. Test rode it---Freeway/Highway/ rain=works fine. Ears comfortable, face shield fine, Sunshield fine...might be better clear as I wear safety sunglasses or clear safety glasses at nite....alone it provided nice protection/comfort on my XTown 300i with Puig Touring screen/bolted on Laminar Lip---this combo, no buffeting but some air spill over (universal maxiscooter problem as your nose too far from tip of shield) With faceshield down RS helmet quite comfortable for all day riding. I tested with fresh foam ear plugs, result quite quiet operation----normal day of touring, I go thru 2 or 3 pair of plugs....throwing them away when they become soft or hard to put in. At 80 I still have my hearing!
Normal year I use up 2 new helmets, throwing them away when they get real dirty and stink Tend to stay with DOT specs, price in the $40-50 range. My age, hit something real hard will, will probably just splat anyway, so do not worry too much about helmet.

When buying by mail order how do you get the proper, safe fit for your head size and shape?
Better (read 'safe') fit if you try several on at a cycle shop - and then buy the best fitting helmet which you can afford.

Dealers most times do not stock what I need----Lite weight/Bill/Light color! Right price. Cycle Gear has lots of helmets, but so far nothing I want/need.

Yeah, BUT, John....what Stig said. I agree with what you said about Cycle Gear but I tried several helmets at a Honda shop and settled on a HJC xxxxxl special order because a xxxxl was too small and STILL had to add padding in the top! You ain't gonna be able to do THAT mail order. Maybe it's Stig and have really fat heads....?

As a fat head myself, I know I certainly couldn't mail order a helmet. I usually have to try at least several before I find the right fit. haha

Having bought a lot of helmets---I know GMAX fits me as does Z1R----US made Bell RT or Magnum fit well as did Bell Shorty. Took chance on RS and so far it works for what I want/ need
