Title: rediculous registration fees in Oregon
Post by: scooter250 on June 03, 2019, 12:09:20 AM
Anyone else from Washington County Oregon Did you buy your scoot NEW?
I just went to a dealer and looked at scooters. They are very nice. But cost prohibitive
because of the high fees Oregon feels they need to require before you can roll out the door.
1. License requirement...Take a course $200.00
2. Pay for FOUR, 4 for, (However you spell it it sucks)
2. Cont.   Washington County requires you to pay for 4 years of registration UP FRONT! on top of tax and dealer fees.
Has anyone else heard of these stupid tactics?
I would think scooters would be a little cheaper. They keep bitching about the environment then price people
out of environmentally friendly vehicles.
Whats your take?

First get or have lic.====not stupid requirement.   Other fees, other than dealer fees, talk to your elected rep......might matter if bike requirement different on fees, than car.

Motorcycling/scooters not real cheap hobby/transportation....but fun

Oregon requires the MSF safety course for new riders dependent on age. The FOUR year registration is for the original purchase and every TWO years after that. You can ride a scooter in Oregon with your auto license as long as it is 50cc and restricted. Dealer fees can be negotiated depending on the specific dealer. There is NO sales tax in Oregon.  Pay the money for the MSF course it's worth it!  ;)

My home state of record is Washington, spent years in California, been subjected to some of Oregon's ridiculous laws like you can't pump your own gas all leads to why it is called the "left coast." I am just glad I don't have a bunch of legislators deciding things for me as I no longer live anywhere near there. However, I agree that an MSF course is money well spent. We decided to do that several years ago when we got into higher performance scooters. Nothing like that existed when I started with motorcycles in 1960. My suggestion is move to where mostly liberals do not run the government. If you just cannot leave a good job then take the suggestion to contact your elected officials so you can add the frustration of being ignored to your list. Happy riding!

being required to take the MSF course is a smart move...something you should do any way. Paying 4 years of registration fees up front? You sure about that?  Never heard of that but most scoots and motorcycles are dirt cheap to register (compared to a car)...and if you sell it or get rid of it you'll be able to get a refund on the fees you paid..so you're really not out anything.

no reason for political jabs...probably a different forum for that..

The class is a good idea. I agree. But the cost is pretty high.
The four year registration is is a fact for new vehicles
Registered in Washington County. The cost is the same as
Registering a car $118.00 per year. I know Oregon does not have sales tax.... BUT they do have property tax, gas tax
Motel taxes tobaco tax liquor tax. Believe me, Oregon has
Taxes. Your car is taxed registration is taxed and income
Tax.

Two wheels yes, four wheels no. They have learned to leave anyone on two wheels alone.

Big brother at his finest. Sick of government intruding in every ones lives.
I`ll decide what is right for me.
This whole country has been brainwashed.
Legislators spend most of their time passing new laws restricting or taking away  our rights. I`m sick of it.
Taxing us to death.

Thank you Boo but be careful not to discus politics here!
