Well, I experienced my first off-road hazard last night! Took the UXV 450i out for an evening ride after work and noticed a long stick had gotten stuck up under the machine between the left rear wheel and the frame. I reached in and pulled it out and my hand was covered in grease! Upon further inspection, I realized that the stick had poked up against the outer CV boot and punctured it. There were a few globs of grease on the outside of the boot and rim. With new toys comes new repair responsibilities!
Fortunately, I don't think the tear is too bad. And I caught it probably almost as soon as it happened and it doesn't look like any dirt or water got in there. I was actually looking at some videos last night on YouTube, and guys have had pretty good luck patching the boots with bicycle tire tube kits. So, if the hole is small, I think I'll give that a shot and then maybe cover the patch with silicone sealer. Because I really don't want to take the CV joint apart and replace the whole boot myself or bring it back to the dealer for same.
Any of you guys ever deal with anything like this? If so, I appreciate your input. Thanks!

I wouldnt take that chance, I would replace the boot and refill with grease. I ride out in the boonies sometimes, no place for a problem that could be prevented!

Agree, my experience with VW's is to replace the CV boot with new. If it's shooting grease the repair is to replace.
Youtubers, notwithstanding.... ;)

If that grease anything like CV joint grease of the 80s, bicycle patch glue will not stick! Nothing will stick. Grease comes out, dirt goes in. Bite bullet. Replace.

Well guys, I had a chance to give that CV boot a closer look after work this evening and its pretty much ripped the entire circumference. That stick got lodged in there and by the wheels moving it just allowed that stick to open it up like a zipper.
So...replace it is. A $20 part and lots more than that in time and/or labor! :-[
