Owner's manual schedule is @2500 miles between changes using 90# oil.
I do them about every 1000 miles.
Today used Valvoline full synth. 75/90W.
Removed a bit under 200ml. Poured the same into the cup, and injected like amount into the ol' LIKE200iLX.
I clean things up before starting....

Weapon of choice (works much better than cheap syringes I've tried)

One last thing - I never use a torque wrench on gear oil, engine oil, exhaust studs or spark plug changes.
I just use a light touch, short ratchet & common sense.....

That oil coming from the drain hole (2nd last picture) still looks in very good condition ?
I bought my scooter 2nd hand and have no record of previous service record. I changed engine and gearbox oil just after I bought the scooter.
The engine oil was very dirty, but the gearbox oil was perfectly clean. I couldn't find any traces of moist or metal dust in the gearbox oil, so I thought I will just change gearbox oil every 5000 km in future.
I assume these gearboxes come with breather holes somewhere ?
I couldn’t find a breather hole on my scooter’s gearbox, and my only concern is getting moist mixed with the gearbox oil due to condensation. I think if the oil level is correct at all times, there should be no sign of metal dust in the oil during oil changes.

Kymco typically vents the gear box into the carb/throttle body side of the airfilter with a small formed rubber-like hose/tube. Usually at the rear of the air filter box.

Thanks, I managed to find it. (Small /thin hose, linked between the gearbox and rear of the air filter box).

Also works great if you overfill your engine oil by a bit. Slip the tube off of the bottom of a household finger pump spray bottle. Put it on the syringe needle to reach into the oil via the dipstick hole. Suck out as much as you need.
I tried two of the cheap plastic syringes sold in auto parts area of malwart - lousy.

Thank you for all your very insightful & helpful write ups. I remember also having an automotive syringe that was also terrible. There is no therapy like scooter therapy. 😄😊🙃

If you know anyone in the health care business, a 135ml plastic squeeze enema bottle is one of the handiest gearbox filler tools!

I find Kymco maint. requirements sometimes too frequent----probably designed for bikes that are not ridden much or big miles----I would say LIKE, every 10,000 miles or 2 years---but make sure level is right.

The manual specifies SAE90 every 5000km but I think it's too frequent. I do mine every 10,000km and it comes out clean every time. It's the same oil used in car gearboxes and transmissions that are changed every 30, 50, or 80,000km or so which experience much more severe loads and temps.

Both those are easy to fill without extra tools, thats why, and api 4 and 5 are quality enough for Like 50 that is nine years old, IMO.
Next change I will do spring anyway, easy five minutes job itself.
