Title: Kymco Like II 50i with fuel injection upgrade
Post by: zyntrax on February 19, 2019, 02:10:31 PM
Hello!

I bought this Like II 4-stroke 2017/2018 model with fuel injection about 7 months ago.
I have been looking around for upgrades for this model and cannot find anything at all.
I'm looking for better acceleration and a bit higher top speed.

Are there any upgrades available to achieve this?

I don't know much about scooters and any help would be very much appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

You might be the first member here with a second gen. LIKE 50cc.

Being fuel injected - you might be limited to experimenting with different roller weights, or types (Dr Pulley sliders vs round roller weights) in the CVT. Not sure that different clutches or variators will help much - IF any will fit your scooter.

Different stick-on pipes might add noise - but not much speed - if any at all.....makes you think you're going faster.

Keeping valves to spec - tires inflated to spec - along with trying different roller weights or Dr P. sliders might get you a bit more top speed and/or acceleration. Sometimes you gain more accel and lose top speed - and/or vice versa.

Were you limited to a 50cc scooter for a reason - vs spending $300 more for the much faster 150i model?

Thank you for the reply.

It doesn't seem to be a common model yet.

It's a shame that there don't seem to be much that can be done on it, i might try and change the variator weights and see if there will be any difference.

I don't have a motorcycle license yet so i'm only allowed to drive 50cc.

It's just frustrating that it seems to be locked at max 45 km/h or 50 km/h downhill since the roads i'm allowed to drive on are 50 or 70 km/h.

What are your thoughts? Do you think there will be upgrades coming for the model in the near future?

Your speeds are pretty much what you can expect from a 4 stroke 50cc scooter.
Most new owners are quite disappointed in the speed of their 50cc 4 strokes.
Somehow the salesman never quite gets this point across to customers.

Model specific speed parts for this scooter are unlikely - as Kymco does not make such for any of their scooters - but generic parts are not uncommon for carbureted models.....but you are fuel injected.

Your best bet might be to frequent 50cc scooter forums - post your questions there. Those folks are the experts on these small engines.

We did have a member here who breathed heavily on his 50cc LIKE with parts (2 stroke, I think it was) and got it to 60mph --- before it was involved in a crash. He has several youtubes of it in action.

Unfortunately I agree that little can be done to change the performance, beyond messing with the roller weights.

There may be that sleeve on the front pulley that limits how far the CVT shifts. But then, they may have all that programmed into the ECU. I am only guessing....
