Title: Oil strainer plug cap replacement?
Post by: sailorman on January 28, 2019, 08:26:27 PM
OK, managed to round/strip the oil strainer plug cap part or "oil tappet cap" #12361   as I did not realize it was aluminum and used a 12-point socket on it.  Finally got it off today with a cold chisel and plenty of penetrant.  Old gunner's mate guideline: if it doesn't come out, use a bigger hammer.

Trying to order replacement but Kymco Monster shows "not available."  Is it safe to assume one of the inexpensive GY6 strainer sets like these available online will fit the 200i?

YES! - I purchased a 17mm 6-point socket just for that application.  ;)

Yeah, I bought a couple of the kits off of ebay. @$7.00

These get torn up on several brands of scooters. Don't know why they are so over tightened from the factory.

Just "snug + a bit" is fine for the torque. I use a dab of silicone grease on the O ring.

I made it a practice to go around my new scooter and break loose a lot of fittings while it's new - to keep things from seizing. (like the exhaust cap/nuts with some anti seize) Some of the big phillips screws in the body panels require the correct bull nose phillips to break loose.....tight!

It's a great scooter - resists most efforts to screw it up.
Goodness knows - some of us have tried!

Replaced with the GY6 cheap online plug, fits fine, no leaking, good to go.
