Title: Need help with People 50 - stalling problem
Post by: biederboat on August 31, 2010, 12:08:00 AM
Hi, first time post here, I've used lots of forums before so I knew to do a search but didn't find what I was looking for.  Wife has a 2 year old People 50 with about 3K KM on it.  Stalls a lot when cold (usually starts, just stalls when you give it gas) and it often cuts out when going up steep hills.  I made a restrictor plate over the air intake for colder months (we're in Portland, OR)l and that helped but it doesn't work well in the winter months.  I've tried some minor adjustments on what I think is the mixture screw but I'm not sure I'm doing the right one (isn't there an idle speed and an idle mixture screw?).  Could the fuel filter be causing this?  Air cleaner is fine.  Any other ideas?  How far out should the stock idle mixture be (I have found 2.5 turns here, is that correct?)?

I tried to download the service manual at pdftown but it said it couldn't download the file.  If someone has one they could email me, that would be great.  Send me a PM and I'll reply with my email address.

Thanks!

Wow!  Not used to this kind of fast response, even on something like a Ford Bronco forum!  Way cool and I'll be checkin' some of this stuff out.

Yep the 4t is still a bit new to us. But they all kinda work the same. Just don't know the mod potential yet!!!

The 2009 2t needed to be swapped for the cobra I'm sure there are others, but i tried the cut on that one and no go.

That I don't it's just the kymco cobra,It was discontinued and i believe they used it in a few other models but none confirmed. The zx I had (2003 I think) had the same cdi. Green wire comming out the bottem, unplug done!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume this is "2 or 4 stroke?"  Her's is 2, I didnt' even know they made a 4 stroke.  If that's not what you were asking, well, I suppose I should be rightfully flamed!

You got it right. the 4 stroke is kinda rare and a bit of a mystery. If you had the 2 side by side most would not even consider the 4 stroke performance wize. What year is yours?
They are a great bike and can be made quite fast. No flames needed here just love of the kymco's  :D

I'm not exactly certain what model year it is, she did get it exactly two years ago at Columbia.  I was wondering about Berryman's B-12, is that advisable?  I have used it successfully on outboards.

If you have the carb out no problem, use all the time, but up here a little seafoam in the tank is almost manditory(bout an ounce per gallon). Helps the oxigenated gas and the obviouse dampness  :D
If its a 2007 ther's a chance you could get some more performance out of it for little to nothing. This bike will hit 50 mph with ease and not put any strain on it with just a few adjustments  ;)

Welcome to the forum Biederboat, with art and Wordslinger to help, you can't go wrong. Just watch out, you may catch some of art's overflow, (not that it would be a bad thing). :D

Well, the title says 2008 so doesn't look like that's a go.  I'll get some of the Seafoam, good stuff from what I hear.

Ya I use in everything up here. If it don't work or want to make that thing a little faster get in touch.
I think I got a 2005 pipe around here somewhere thats half the battle on the newer ones.
