Title: I'm actually excited...
Post by: glopezz05 on August 30, 2010, 07:36:40 PM
Just ordered a Malossi variator with a new torque spring and 6g weights (single kit from provoscooter, Thanks Jeff!)

5g weights, gates belt, and enviromotos ztr variator tool (Thanks Jeremy!)

Hope to have all parts and a bigger jet on there next week some time.

I was worried because my scoot shop was really reluctant to put anything lighter in when I asked.  I think they went with a mix of 6 and 5.5...

Not sure...

but, with the 6's and 5's I ordered I'm sure I can find a great mix to get me up those hills.

Would bigger weights be better if I went with a big bore kit?

Malossi is here.

Waiting for my variator tool to get here so I can get it on.

Too bad it's raining the next couple of days.

..you can use a pair of vise-clamps to hold the drive face....

..that's what i use..lol..

..hold it like the first pic, wedging the lever against a board, or your boot, to loosen..

..flip it over like the second pic to tighten...

Are you sure you want to see some of us scoot naked  ;)  I have done this on a dirt bike and it didn't feel quite right  ;D  but strangely satisfying  :o

Malossi variator with 5.5 gram weights and gates belt installed...

currently raining...

My old weights (believed to be a mix of 5.5 and 6 grams) had lots of flat spots on them.

Old variator looks original, not sure about the belt.  scoot has nearly 5000 k on it.

I hope I got the variator nut on it correctly,  the ztr tool I ordered didn't work the way I hoped.
