Title: Bored?
Post by: airshot on November 28, 2018, 04:25:22 PM
This kind of sucks, having these reliable, well built machines keeps people from chatting on here. Makes winter boring!  Mabey someone should go break something so we have something to read about!  LOL. Just kidding...everyone have there machines ready for winter?  Just put my cab enclosure on last weekend and need to bolt on the quick mount for the snow plow, but that only takes a few minutes. Can't wait for snow so I can get out and play!

What brand/size winch do you have?  And what plow kit are you using?

I have a kfi 2500 lb winch that has worked very well for 3 yrs. My plow is a Quad Boss Pile Driver that is a very heavy duty plow!  Well made with heavy material and it is heavy. Quick attach and release,  see there video to see how easy it is to mount up.  The original kit for attaching to the frame was worthless so I made my own by spanning all 3 crossmembers with angle iron. All I have to do is attach the mount plate with 6 bolts then snap on and off the plow. When summer arrives drop the 6 bolts and mounting plate for max ground clearance

I was bored up until the other day, my buddy called me up to let me know that the last snow storm we got blew the cover off my 700 prime so I went up there to check it out and sure enough it was partially blown off so I figured what the hell I fired it up and ran it up and down the road for awhile. then my buddy wanted to drive so I said go ahead only he decided to run it in his yard now mined you he has 80 some acres to play on and what does he do !? run's it in his front yard well I'm just standing there laughing my ass off because I know his wife is watching him through the window and she is pissed !!!! it doesn't take long she comes out of the house and starts tearing him a new one and he was acting like a kid who just got caught with his hand in the cookie jar!
that turned out to be a great day!
and my friend had to spend a whole Saturday fixing his front yard

They are Trygg chains, got them from Labonville (a logging supply vendor) on closeout, 50% off, only paid $300, the nicest thing about them, is they don't stretch like cheaper chains, had them for 3 winters now, haven't had to take up any slack, still as tight as the day I put them on. That was a task in itself, even with all the air out of the tires

no, I do not have a plow, I use my UTV to drag firewood, sometimes tree length, sometimes in my otter sled, I am building a "drag" plow, sorta experiment for my trails, I have to keep my driveway clear with a snowblower, cause I have retaining walls, using a plow would quickly run out of room to store snow, the snowblower puts it up and over the retaining walls

the drag plow will be constructed from PT 2x6s  an equilateral wedge 6ft on each side 16½" tall, with a steel angle iron cutting edge on the forward edges, solid bottom, open top, I can throw stuff on it for weight, if 16½ isn't tall enuf, I will add another 5½

Looks like you had some fun!!  Mine looked like that a couple times over the summer, hated having to clean everything but it sure was fun!

thought I'd post pics of the drag plow I built. works well with it's limitations, I make a 2 swipe pass, then finish it off with the snowblower, cuts my time in half

Hey Randy,
just out of curiosity how is the cvt belt holding up with you dragging your firewood and wood sled ? i'm curious to know just how good the belts are.+

the only indication of any wear is that my top speed is now 46-47 mph instead of the 48-49 when new, I am nearly always pulling something, whether it be logs or my sled loaded with wood, my 990 lb "toe-hoe" and now my drag plow

You have been very smart in choosing correct gear selection to have your belt last this long, with all the work you use your machine for....

I pretty much use low off road whether pulling something or not, high when I'm on the street except steeper hills when I'm towing
