Title: Getting registered first time

I have been offered a un used 125 that was won in a prize but has never been on the road and doesnâ€™t come with any paperwork. What is my options or should I get involved?

How 'bout the dealer that supplied the bike? You were offered it. What are you supposed to do to get it? You may hold the upper hand if the owner wants some of your money for this because without paperwork this can be a frustrating nightmare just to get it legally on the road. Making the owner of this thing understand that no paperwork can mean the bike is virtually worthless since even a salvage yard MUST have a title to prove it is not dealing in stolen goods. All the foregoing, I guess is to say, if the current "owner" of this prize cannot get the papers then you should consider it as stolen and walk away.

Thank for the reply. The bike was a prize in show jumping event in France three or four years ago.
It has been moved around three local people as payment and no paperwork with the current owner who is now looking rid of it. I am certain itâ€™s not stolen. I personally know the owner of the winning horse. What is the value and how do I find out how old it is ?

The value is is going to be extremely low without the paperwork.

I'm guessing you're in Europe if it was a prize in France. If the bike doesn't have the EU Certificate of Conformity then walk away - it will be a nightmare to register. I've been down that road and gave up in the end.

Post by: stuo on October 31, 2018, 06:10:13 PM: In California, USA, all you would need is a bill of sale or some document to show who owned it previously, show up at the DMV for an inspection to verify VIN and engine number, pay the fees and that's it. But every state has its own process and requirements. Why not call or visit your local DMV to find out how to register it?
