Title: What ive done so far, i need some help (alot).
Post by: JDizzle on August 20, 2010, 12:29:32 AM
:-\ Ok, so i need alot of help. my father inlaw an I have been workin on my 06' kymco people s 50 4t for 3 days. i want to get it to move up to 50MPH (all de-restricted). so far we took it apart an machined down the center piece in the variator (the metal cylender in the center) im not sure what its called, but it let the belt ride up farther to make me go 3-5MPH faster. so that was successful. now i looked on some forums an they said its good i did that. Next i bought a NCY CDI from scooter parts place.com. its a vento/gy6 racing  NCY CDI. which i found on another forum to buy. i just plugged it in today an i herd a POP! an nothing but smoke come out the front of my scooter an a stink. needless to say im calling them tomorrow for return. or to see if i even got the right 1. so is there any tips anyone can give me on what we can do to make this go any faster? part numbers an references would be greatly appreciated. thank you so much for you time.

..hopefully, that was just the fuse that popped....but i bet it's not the right cdi for your scoot..

..that scoot, de-restricted should hit around 45-50 mph...

easy...

..it may be possible to de-restrict your oem cdi..

..can you post a pic of it, showing the wiring connector??

..and, Welcome to th' Forum!

peace

..oh, wait...itsa 4t...

yes ill post a pic, and its a 6pin but it only uses 4 pins. 4 pin only uses three an the 2 pin only uses 1. post the pic in a second. thanks for the welcome =)

Welcome to the forum, Hell of a way to start. I don't have your model but i suspect your cdi is ac fired and you orderd a dc one,not compatable. Hopefully nothing else has fried. You will have to verify and get the right one.
For more speed you will want to upjet, open the airbox and exhaust. Doing plug readings are the only way to know if  you have got it right.
I have not worked on one of these so not sure what jets you will want to order, but the rest can be done on a budget. A 1\4 inch hole in the airbox will let some more air in and 3 or more in the exhaust will let more out(near the outlet) use self tapping screws so you can plug if you've gone to far,but you must upjet to make things right, most will run an 85# main jet but i don't know about yours for sure.
Give this a try and let us know how it works. Good or bad.

so yea its a KYMCO PEOPLE S50 4T i hurd theres alot of difference in the air flow adjustments in the 2T and the 4T where the 2T you can unplug the green or pink wire an it works and you can drill holes in the airjet and the exhaust. they said it normally wont do much for the 4T. my father inlaw is asking this.
Title: Re: What ive done so far, i need some help (alot).

yea i know it was smallest possible and they were JPEG so i dont know why they didnt take.

..the key to getting performance from a 4t is getting the initial rpms up, and maintaining them throughout the scoot's powerband.....lighter roller weights..stiffer clutch springs..

..increased air flow...

..i'll go check those pics...

ok so by doin what i already did with the variator, is that good or bad that we machined it down so the belt has more room to move. and what should i do exactly and what parts should i get for it. im really bummed out the CDI didnt work so i guess, find the right CDI, but the 150$ variator kit off line some where (if you clould look up a good 1 for me an send me the link to it) and drill holes in the filter and exhaust? for more air?

Yep more air in and more air out, same princable 4t or 2t. Word is pushing 60mph on his agility 50

:o holy christ, is it possible for me to get mine up to that?
i only weigh bout 150LBS soaking wet lol. god if i could get up to 60 id be set.
Where exactly would i drill these holes any pics of examples. i dont want to drill somwhere i shouldnt lol.
Title: Re: What ive done so far, i need some help (alot).
Post by: JDizzle on August 20, 2010, 01:51:11 AM
to be honest that looks like what i have right now. theres not alot of difference in mine an that one. my dad said that with the performance variator thats 150$ its deeper and the ramps are less cuved so the weights shoot up an take off quicker.
Title: Re: What ive done so far, i need some help (alot).
Post by: JDizzle on August 20, 2010, 01:52:56 AM
actually there is a little difference. i looked at the pics closer

..oem carb..101 jet..K&N filter..modified oem exhaust...

..ncy variator (Malossi be comin')..oem drive face.. 27 grams of rollers (4.5) ..from 28.2 grams..(4.7)  ..729 belt..

..oem clutch (Dr Pulley be comin')..malossi white 1000 contra..leo vince red 1000 fly springs..oem torque driver..oem driven face..

..i'm getting awesome-quick take-off (not 2-stroke, but as close as i've ever been)...gots those rpms up!..initial belt tug is GONE..

..remains in the higher revs, accelerating VERY NICELY to 47mph indicated (43 gps)...

..rpms settle out there as speed gradually increases if on a flat and the wind is favorable.....

..hit a little decline while running at 47, and scoot kinda takes off up to 52 indicated (49 gps)..

..downhill??...i don't know, as i've not ever had a gps on my scoot with the speedo in these positions..

..but it sure feels fast...........

so i can put all that on my scoot an it will boogy? how much would all this run an where can i get it. and are you sure it will work for my scoot. id hate to go through what i did tonight with the CDI lol.. POOF!... as of right now. mine takes off nicely doin bout 25-30 in 8-10 seconds. then it eventually works up to about 32. if im goin down hill about 35. an thats all she'll do. when i do go down hill it slows me down. so i still got to de-restrict the CDI so it dont do that.

basically, what parts should i get for my scooter now, where do i get them from like the places you guys shop at. and with the holes in the filter, exhaust and jets? im not 100% what they are. im sorry if im coming on as dumb. :P my dad knows alot about small engines but the scooter is complicated. he understands some of what you guys are saying. but if you guys can direct me where to go, what to do, and what to buy. ill try everything out this weekend an try to buy as much as i can to get it to where you guys are saying i can let you know if it all works out. but i dont want to mess anything up. so i need like pin pointed guidence. but i appreciate you guys helping me, thank you.

I don't have your model but the next biggest bang for the buck would be a k/n filter mesure your carb air intake and buy on line or sometimes local shops will have. Send me a pic of your pipe and i'll see if i could show you where to drill some holes,Near the outlet is best. You may still be able to derestrict the oem cdi, Not alot of us have or even seen the people 4t up close  ;)

Good luck on getting to 50. I hope you don't use your scooter as a primary means of transportation. Modified that much it won't last very long.

I understand your point of view old guy,but these modern scoots have been restricted to meet local and federal laws to do no more than 35mph. By allowing the motor to breath and run properly can actually be a benifit to longevity and you will be less of a hazard to your self and others on the road.
These motors were desinged to run above the 35mph mark troublefree in the asian market. That said You do not want to run wot all the time and if 50 and above is a speed you need you should get a bigger bike.

WHOA.. i just turned 20,000km on my lil zx..she runs better now than when she was new!!... i can get up to 53mph and i ride EVERYDAY..the ONLY ride i have.. no spare scoot, nothing...mine isnt modded like sum here...yet, but she gets up and gos real good..gotta travel 35miles to town..one way...sorry old guy but i have to disagree with you there

..i've been running my '08 WOT, all around the 50 mph and above mark, for over 25,000kms...

..51,000kms total...

..it's all about how you keep your scoot maintained...

..running as i do, every day, one MUST perform routine maintenance WAY more frequently...

..and, of course, every build of scoot is not the same..what works for mine may not work for another...

G'day JDizzle, welcome to the forum. I don't like the sound of the pop from under the front cover. I am curious, what did you machine off the variator sleeve? Was it the diameter or the length? May be a silly question, but I am just curious. Good luck, you will have lots of fun with your scoot, I have a selection of bikes to ride but still like the little scoot.
Title: Re: What ive done so far, i need some help (alot).
Post by: JDizzle on August 26, 2010, 11:44:34 PM
we machined the diameter so its al the way flush. we didnt shorten it at all, because then A it would wobble and B the weights would fly out lol.

well my dad looked at the wiring on the bikes an he said that if we would have switched the wiring and put them in a different order it might not have poped.. any of you guys know anything bout the wiring if you buy a new CDI.. COULD SOME ONE TELL ME WHERE TO BUY A CDI FOR MY SCOOT THAT WONT POP lol.

Thats the problem not to many people s50 owners not sure if the 2t is the same if it is get the cobra cdi,you could also derestrict the stock one if its like the agility 50. Maybe a pic would help.

yeah its the stock pipe looks like the one ART just showed us.

@word and @art... such as the things that i have on my bike for messing with. is there anything i should take off thats not needed or is not important?
Title: Re: What ive done so far, i need some help (alot).

..the jet is the port in your carb, through which fuel is sucked up through, into the airstream from your carb's air intake...filter...

..any time you mod something that increases the flow of air into, or out of your engine, you MUST increase the diameter of this port..(jet)...
Title: Re: What ive done so far, i need some help (alot).
Post by: JDizzle on August 27, 2010, 01:04:00 AM
do u buy a bigger jet or can u mod it yourself?
Title: Re: What ive done so far, i need some help (alot).
Post by: art on August 27, 2010, 01:06:59 AM
Yes word the holes were quite noticable and a little meaner too ;)
On the people 50 4t i haven't seen one up close but if like the others try takeng the cover of the air filter and a few holes neer the outlet of the exhaust try "3" 1/4" holes to start with. You can fill them back in with self tapping screws if you go too far. Of corse you need to up jet to take advantage of the better flow and don't want to run your scoot too lean it will damage your engine.
It's trial and error but just takeing the cover off will give you an idea of how restricted it is than you have to match the out going with the in coming. You will notice an instant difference but will have to play with it a bit to get all working together(more air=Need more fuel)

my dad said me an him are going to focus on the CDI and finishing the variator for now. so i need a link for a performance de-restricted cdi for my scoot and we will make the variator diameter one size instead of it having that lip on it to restrict it. do you guys know where i can find a de-restricted/performance cdi? for my scoot?

..if you cut a notch in that edge, at least 1/4 inch deep, you WILL cut the wire, if it's indeed there..

...then, i'd bet there is something else keeping your speed restricted, other than the cdi...

...it would be awesome, of you could measure your variator drive boss...

..both in diameter, and length...

..i have the de-restricted specs of a boss somewhere aroundhere...

..post a pic of your cdi cut!!!!

..keep in mind, we're all hitting un-travelled territories with this ppl 4t...

..but i'm pretty sure we can all get it figured out..

..think of how much you've learned already!!..the fun has just begun!!!

My 2009 people 2t was pipe jetting mostly but cdi had to be derestricted to get to that part first(the boss had been changed at the shop before i bought it). For a 2t it was slow!!! I owned 2 older ones that would leave it in the dust till i modded it. 35 mph was tops down hill. Was doing 55mph + with me 220lbs when i sold it.
I put one 3/8 hole in the air box an #85 main jet and swaped the pipe with a leftover 2002 people 50 I had laying around and that was it.(Plus the kymco cobra cdi)

That could be the key,the boss may not be as long as the older ones or replacments. Get a mesurement I got a couple laying around here somewhere I'll let one go for 20 percent of new plus shipping  ;)

...there are different drive boss lengths...just shorter by a few millimeters, but that makes a big difference...

Ya i'll have to match mine up and take a closer look. They seem to all be the same but havn't looked that close, but was thinking about the restricted ones, may not be the same at all, never had one.

A copy of the email for J. The transmition, veriater and clutch. I think it stands for constant variable transmision.  But ya new variater the right weights and probably the white contra spring for the clutch should get you a bit more. Kinda trial and error
