Title: Some SOB...
Post by: oswaldters on August 09, 2010, 05:49:00 PM
So I come out of the Metro station (subway or tube for  the non-DC area folks) to where my scoot is chained to the bike rack as always.

- Except this time I notice a large gap in the floor board where my battery used to be.  Someone stole (in broad daylight, at the main enterance to the station, and surrounded by dozens of people waiting for their buses) my battery and left me stranded!  Worse yet, they also took my battery cover so when I did finally get a new battery I had to seal the opening with plastic sheeting and duct tape.  Sort of a rustic look.  On the bright side, they did leave the cable for my battery tender.

Given they took the battery and the cover it must not only be another scooter owner - but one with a Kymco - likely an agility.  How's that for rotten!  Plus getting that cover shipped from Stadium Yamaha will take weeks.

Glad I use the heavy chain to lock my scooter up or the whole thing probably would have been gone, but now I have to worry about what parts might be missing when I come home each day.

All I can say is that whoever did this better keep their head up when they ride- because that's one big black mark on their Karma scorecard.

Sorry to hear that mate, that really sucks!

The FIRST time I went for a proper ride (let's call it the "Maiden Voyage"), a pack of lowlife kids in some busted-ass ford decided to throw a Macca's cup (full of Coke) at me as they came towards me.
My 60 km/hr + their 60 km/hr = Josh getting hit in face by a 120 km/hr projectile.
I managed to keep the scoot upright, and (very shakily) pulled over and changed my shorts....

All I can say is THANK GOD for face-shields! - I'd never, ever ride without a full-face helmet on, or at least an open-face with a shield.

Josh.

..os, and jb...i feel for you both...

..never had any parts stolen, or hit with anything, but i've been run off the road twice..

..harrassed a bit, but nothing major..

..the world is going to hell...

..i live in a very good, quiet neighborhood, but still, my scoot sleeps in my house every night..

that's one big black mark on their Karma scorecard

..they'll lose out in the end...goes around comes around..

;D  Some of those chinese scoots get worse the more you work on them. (Don't do it  ;) ) The ones that do well must be swapped out with all japenese parts and maintained religiously. I forget the good one's Quiyzie or something and one other i realy dont recall are worth a shot, but if ya got a kymco in the first place it cost about the same to set up right..

Not exactly, because you were hit by the Coke can, not the vehicle.
It does not take anything away from your experience though... :)

...i knew absolutely NOTHING about scooters...when i found myself all of a sudden needing one...

..was at th mall with my girls, and spotted a flier for scooter vita, in a city near me...offering NO DOWN PAYMENT! on a new scooter...

..well that offer was for the Marshin...and i just couldn't keep my eyes off the KYMCOs they had there....there is no comparison in the builds of the two brands of scoots..the marshin looked like a kids toy when standing next to the kymcos...

..so i talked them into a $500 down deal...

..two and a half years and 51,000 kilometers later...wow...

..i love my kymco..damn the SOBs...

Hmmm....

OK, who did Physics at school?... come on, own up....... anyone?
I'm a lil' confused....

If you were to throw, lets say a tennis ball at a street sign as you were approaching it at 60 km/hr...... would the tennis ball be doing the same speed as the vehicle it came out of????

And if the "sign" was moving towards the car at 60km/hr and made contact with the tennis ball as it left the vehicle, would the combined speeds be the same (120km/hr) as throwing a tennis ball (out of a vehicle) at a (stationary) brick wall while the vehicle is doing 120 km/hr?

I'm pretty sure it would.

Any ideas.... anyone?

Cheers Bro.
I guess I was kinda lucky in that I'd only been to one other (Hyosung) dealer before the Kymco shop, I knew absolutely nothing about Kymco (never heard of them before, or their manufacturing and quality control history!), but it just so happened that the salesman/manager seemed like a pretty decent guy, he laid out all the 50cc options for me (Vibe, Sento, Like, Agility, 2T/4T Colours etc) but in the end the Like 50 4T seemed the best value for money and would be the most practical (for me).
In hindsight, the Agility RS 50 4T has really grown on me.... more "sporty" than the combined semi-retro/commuter/cruiser styling of the Like, but that FREE top box is something that I could never do without on a scoot as I often carry Laptops and other IT components to sites. - the Agility looks weird WITH a top box, and the Like looks a bit droopy WITHOUT one!

BTW, I've replaced my Chrome "Stalk" mirrors with a nice Matt Black  set of "Bar-End" mirrors (Cafe' Racer style) I think it really suits the Like, and makes it look much lower in profile, but I'll post some photos when I get a chance and I'm sure someone will tell me if they don;t suit....  :P

By the sounds of things, that ZX of yours hauls ass! I got just over 90 km/hr out of my Like on a slight downhill last night.
Still the stock Carb & Exhaust....., just a DE-Restricted Variator Bush!

..same engine and tranny as the a50...

So would the exhaust mounting points be the same between the two?

Like, can I bolt an a50 exhaust on my Like50?

I got my sexy new Leo Vince Scoot SP3 Exhaust in yesterday...... I ended up buying one direct from Italy to fit a Suzuki AP50 Address, as it looked like the closest fit to mine.
Within a matter of minutes of the courier delivering my box of goodies, I was under the scoot doing a trial-fit.
The mounts should be ok, but the Flange that butts up to the head needs to have the weld ground off, the flange rotated about 140 degrees, and re-welded to the bolts will line up  :'(
I was so hoping it would be a bolt-on.
Oh well... I have to attack the restrictive cone on the inside of the inlet with a Dremel anyway.... There's no way in hell that's staying there!

Josh.

Note in bright sunlight, it's actually a deep blue metal-flake finish though, right?  At least the "black" Like 200i our shop just got recently is this deep, metallic blue, I should say. Maybe it's different in other markets.

I had a lot of physics during my education, up to a point of calculating fuel requirements for submerged nuclear submarine at a certain speed. :)
You are oversimplifying.

Except speeds of two objects, vectors of movement (collison angles) are also very important, so is the mass of both colliding objects.

In educational physics, collisions are usually researched also in oversimplified way: two objects are material points, which means they have no mass (no such thing in real world...) and after collision, they move on as a single joined body (also does not happen) and do not continue movement as two separate bodies in different directions.

You cannot calculate "speed" that hit you. You can only calculate energy dissipated by the Coke can hitting you, considering its speed, vector towards your head, weight of the can and speed of (you+scoot), you+vehicle speed vector etc. That would be the energy that is influencing you after the collision.

Anyway, you were not hit by 120 km/h projectile Coke can, that does not take anything away from uniqueness of your experience. :) :) :)

Yeah, my girl was the first to notice that it was actually black with a blue metallic flake through it - like a week or two after I bought it!

Very subtle it is.

Ahhhh.. Now I get it!

Thanks for clearing that up. Physics was never my strong point.
I'm just glad that the contents of the cup as it popped the lid off after hitting the visor went up & over my head, and not over my front  ;D

Coke is easy to clean off helmets and paintwork, but not so easy to get out of jackets!

You're right though man, it was an experience!  :)

I had a lot of physics during my education

..axy, riddle me this...

..let's say you're cruising down the road, in a car, at 120kmh...enjoying a hot summer's evening drive with the windows up and the A/C on, got a little of your favorite music playing thru the in-dash 8-track tape player...it's a peaceful, lightly travelled country road and you're just kicked back, chillin, taking in the scenery....

..but there's this...fly...zipping all around the cabin, buzzing your ear, landing on your hand, then your nose and you flail at it again and again, desperately trying to shoo it away...but you can't hit it..and you're swerving all over the road now and DANG!!! WATCH OUT FOR THAT HEDGEHOG!!..so, this is really beginning to really destroy the moment for you so you roll down the window and attempt to scoop it out into the hot summer air...scooping.. more flailing and finally the little bugger just zing across your field of vision, out the window and into the great outdoors...

..now, my ? is..

..what happens to mister fly when he leaves the confines of the cabin and flies into the open air??

..does he simply fly on his merry little way??

..or is he buffetted by 120km winds, thus ripping his god-forsaken wings from his ever-bothersome thorax?...

..i've always wondered....
