Title: Grand Vista 250 dies when tipped slightly
Post by: robdamech on September 07, 2018, 10:10:25 PM
The scooter starts and idles no problem, but when you roll up to a stop light it dies. Or if you tip it side to side slightly or rock in back and forth on the center stand it dies. Cleaned the carb and and checked the float height, adjusted valves, even tried a different carburetor. By-passed the tank with a remote tank. Have been wiggling and shaking individual components but will only falter when the whole machine is moved. Wiggled the kickstand too......

Ideas?

Look for a "tilt switch" in the ignition circuit. Sounds like it may need replacing or bypassing.

Battery and ground connections good?
Does it die when you roll it off the center stand?
Agree with Karl, it sounds electrical.
Spark plug loose, spark cap loose?

I vote for the "tilt" switch.

this is a long shot, but does it matter what the temperature outside is?
I'm wondering if you have a relay or kill switch that is defective in such a way
that it is expanding and contracting with outside temperature.  I had a Honda
Civic that had that problem.

When there are hoof beats look for horses instead of zebras...start with simple stuff just to eliminate probable causes first.

Hope it didn't die on him at a stop sign in the Mojave.
We may never know ........
