Title: K&N air filter
Post by: Dr. Scooter on August 06, 2010, 04:44:03 AM
Well I have done some research on my bike and the website and I think I have found something that will work with our KYMCO XCITING 500 I am going to spend the money to purchase one for some R&D so you could say I will take as many pictures as possible and when I am sure it will work I will release a part number but until then I will just keep yall updated on my findings.

                                                                                       Thanks Guys,
                                                                                       Arkie

Word I am alreadly launching real hard and I have had mine over the 100 mph mark reason I know the poker run I went on several of the guys tested me and Bertha out to try and poke fun. After the air filter mod I am looking into building an exhaust out of some parts I pull together. Then possibly a higher volume fuel pump and a carb off a 600 cc scoot.

...music to my ears arkie!!...

..you probably already know, but it's a delicate balance between carb tuning...getting the max air/fuel flow.....intake and exhaust....

..but the key to performance is cvt tuning...

..the right combo of roller wts, belt length, and clutch springs....

..wow...make it happen!!!

wish that K&N would make filters for our x500, a guy in taiwan installed a simota cone type filter on his x500 and a yoshi Tmr-mjn 40mm carb!

i have a spare carb that came from a 1200 harley, thinking of doin some experiments! hahaha!

Harley! If you put a Harley part on your X500 scoot, the scoot just might have a simpathy break down? (so the Harley won't feel so bad! ;D

LMAO Sissy I have a strange feeling that a 1200 cc carb will flood out the 500 cc engine a lot more then one off a 600 cc bike. The air filter should be here Tuesday, by Thursday night I should have it fully mounted and perfected to do some Carb tuning. I am looking into buying a muffler for a tuner car and seeing if I can get it to work as well but am worried that it will have to much free flow I am trying to find specs on the mufflers before I decide on one. As for now I am still  ding research so Ladies Gentlemen stick around and I will do what I can to help all with the limited and overpriced performance parts. Thank You Arkie_Rider

Ok got the K&N on last night did some late night test runs. Lets start by saying 0 to 100 mph HOLY %^%& it is awesome cruise at 90 mph no problem pulls slightly harder of the line. Once I am satified with my findings I will release pictures and a part number.

                                                                             Happy Scooting

come on, post them pics now! LOL

i am using a simota on mine but the gain on performance is not that noticable.

BTW the speedometer on our x500 really sucks! i was all excited when i was topping the meter but when we tested it side by side with na kawak er6. on his digital guage it was off.. then again the kwaks guage might be inaccurate! hahaha!

I choose the wrong time of year to do this mod considering that these bikes hate hot weather. When Bertha sits in the sun she is hard starting I am about to play with the air mixture screw and see what I can get

K&N RD-0610 is the filter I used. I recomemend getting about a 2 inch (50.8 mm) long 2.25 inch (57.15 mm) in diameter piece of exhaust pipe to connect the filter to the stock intake tube, it will provide a secure fit. I had to post the pictures to my facebook page I will provide the link for the pictures. I had to adjust my air/fuel mix slightly to get the correct plug color. There are some othe hose you will have to reroute. like the transmission vent hose and the crankcase vent hose. The transmission hose I went straight up with it and zip tied it to the frame. The crankcase vent I put a filter in that line as well to try and keep my scoot running as clean as possible. No fuel mileage yet though I will provide it for you later. Amason.com is where I purchased the K&N as for it was the cheapest site I found.

Good news and Bad news
Good news is increase in power
Bad news
No change in fuel mileage

I think the no change in fuel milage is perhaps a good thing, given that you have got an increase in power. That sounds great.

..arkie...on the page where you're posting youe message, there's a "Additional Options..." link.....click on it, and it'll display the "Attach:" field...

..browse to ur pic, select it and click open..

..the pic must be less than 192 kb in size, so usually you will need to "resample" or resize pics before you can fit them in the forum..

..i can direct you to a really good, quick, small program for resampling pics if you need one...

Arkie,

If you have an on-line image/photo sharing site like Picasa, you can link to the images there and you can bypass the image size issue.  You right click the image at the share site, chose "copy image location" and paste that into the [img ]http://lh6.ggpht.com/_SuCrmBOm6gw/TG0_8CjU2yI/AAAAAAAAIS8/h0IeyLehKy4/s800/IMG_3192.JPG [  / img] tags here (butchered here so you can see them)

then you get an image like this one:

I was taking off for a weekend camping rally. I rode about 450 miles that weekend!  What you see there is my clothes and a sleeping bag.  My tent and tarp are under my seat.

You can see the photos of my rally trips by following the links in my sig file below.
