I drove out into the national forest today, but I forgot to be on the lookout for deer.
By the time I saw the first batch, I didn't have enough time to properly react -- our fates were up to them. Thankfully they decided to run away from the road.
The next time, I was scanning ahead for them and came to a crawl when I saw them. They decided running across the road was the best exit, but they had plenty of space to do so.
There were lots more deer when I was hiking, but the only concern there is making sure they aren't black bears.

Glad you made it out okay. Deer are always unpredictable. Squirrels to, but are at least they’re on the squish-able list.

was just out for a ride on my motorcycle this morning, was on a road with a brief 55 mph limit and just as I hit the limit I saw a deer standing on the side of the road, looking like it was going to cross! Slowed to almost a stop..honked at it and it turned and trotted back into the trees. Like you said, very unpredictable....never know which way they're gonna run. Saw 2 more deer running near a different road a few minutes later....thought to myself..I gotta get the h*ll out of here!

I read that deer kill more people every year then sharks, lions, bears, snakes, etc. all added together. Something like 400+ people die yearly from collisions with deer. Rider magazine had a rider safety columnist who died in a deer collision despite having one of those deer alert gizmos on his bike. Bambi is a killer.
