Just purchased a 2018 Like 150i ABS and it is a great bike. I noticed there isn't a forum created yet for this scooter, any chance one could be?

I asked if that could be done when I purchased my Like 125 a couple of years ago and I did not even get a reply back. Even if they changed the thread to include all Likes instead of just the 200i

It would be a welcome addition to this forum, especially since the 150i is a new model and one I'm sure many current 200i owners will strongly consider when it comes time to "re-up".

There is some argument that bundling all the 'big engined' LIKE's on a forum is of interest to owners as well.
In the mean time -as you may be the first 150i owner here - could you give us the particulars and your thoughts on this new scooter. How will you be using it ?

- Commuter in the city, approximately 2-3 miles a day
- Portland, OR
- Buying experience was great, cost was:
$2599 - scooter
$337 - title/DMV
$220 - destination
$75 - documentation
We were looking at Buddy 125's as well as the Kymco. Kymco won out on features/price (specifically ABS, LED headlights (super bright)).
Any good resources for maintenance items/parts? It seems like
most online parts catalogs don't have this scooter yet. It seems like we might be in an amward stage of this cycle's introduction to the US market, not many of them out there.

The service manual should have been under the seat when you purchased it along with the user manual. The Like 150i that I looked at had them there.

Here is a capture of the maint. schedule from the owners manual...I am planning on replacing the break-in oil @ ~100 miles with 15w-40 mineral oil.

It is pretty sad that Kymco has a very modern engine in this model and yet still insist on services every 2,000km or every three months. Honda PCX is 4,000km and my new Piaggio is every 5,000km. They will loose a lot of customers with this and it was the main reason I went with Piaggio and not the new 150i. >:(

I believe that the service intervals printed in the Like 150i manual are incorrect according to Kymco Australia. The intervals should be at every 3,000km and not at every 2,000km. You might need to check with the US Kymco rep.

Are you able to get a PDF of that Australian manual by chance? Would be interested in seeing the differences. Agreed the service intervals seem fairly close together.

I believe they are the same manuals as what you have but see if you can contact the Kymco rep there.

Holy cow, these service intervalls are indeed a bad joke - at best.
It´s totally laughable and doesn´t make sense at all by the way.
Just one big "money making machine" for the dealers...and a customers rip off.
Or is this the only way to hold the EURO 4 Emissions within limits?.....
Pls pardon my french here, but apart from the warranty period (within I am forced to comply more or less) I don´t give a rats a** what they ask for in the service manual. Just a guideline at best for me. I prefer to use my common sense and should/will be fine.
Therefore imho:
Engine Oil and Gear Oil Change every 5.000km is enough. But use (Full)Synth Oil. I recommend 10W50 for air cooled engines. And Synth Gear Oil.
The Mineral 15W40 Oil is the cheapest and oldest and worst quality oil available. Maybe good for some B&S lawn mowers....
Brakefluid Change every 2 or 3 years should be enough in most cases. Use DOT 5.1 Synth Brake Fluid and you can easily use it for 3 or 4 years.
There are methods to test the brakefluid flash point by the way.
A first valve clearance check and correction at 1.000km is recommended and makes sense. Later checks depend on the use of the scooter. But I also guess that an intervall of 10.000km is possible.
And all these other inspection points....well as I said, use your common sense and treat it accordingly.
Just out of curiosity I will try to get some information about service manuals and how Italy and the Netherlands handles this issue with their new Like 150i´s. I bet every country handles this differntly. ;) :) Which gives us an idea what act is played behind the curtains... ;D

It's to do with getting a recurring income for the dealers, nothing else. My previous Suzuki had 2500 intervals to keep the warranty up - I spent £1900 on the bike new and about £1700 on servicing over the two and a half years I had it... :(

Ha ha ha. Just bought the same 2018 Like 150i today! Mines white too. Love this thing! Totally went in to purchase a Piaggio Liberty 150, but they were sold out. I then filled out a finance application for a Vespa Sprint, but while waiting on the answer for the call back from the finance company I looked over at the Like 150 and was like hey can I take that one around the block? I was sold half way down the block. But yeah would be cool to get a new sub going. I bought the first one from this dealer so maybe it might take a while for people to start owning them. But man, you cannot find a better scoot for the money.

Awesome! Planning on doing the first oil change this week at around 80 miles. Will be flushing the CVT at the same time as well. I'll post a new thread in the 200i forum with pictures.

. Yeah got the same exact color as you. Wanted the grey but their grey one didn’t make it passes the shipping company. And they gave me more for my trade in to take the white one that day. The whites grown on me. Just hit 80 miles and was planning on doing the oil change at 100 like my last couple but dealer said not to until 600. I don’t know about the cvt being changed that
Early, don’t quote me on anything but I think you want to wait on that to ensure proper break in. Am curious to know what kind of oil is in my scoot right now

Did you add it or? I am surprised since they told me several times they arent made yet? I found a gently used Like200 that has that back compartment and thought that wont be an option for me on the 150 but walla you have one?!

The rack my dealer ordered and installed from Kymco. I do not have a part # handy, it was not written on the sales invoice. You could try contacting my dealer:

To see if they could order you the rack themselves, or if they have the part # handy. The box on top of the rack is just a Shad SH-33 which is commonly available.
The other source to try would be Kymco Parts Monster (http://www.kymcopartsmonster.com/p/Kymco-Parts (http://www.kymcopartsmonster.com/p/Kymco-Parts)) . They don't have Like 150i parts yet on their website, but I called them the other day and they are able to order/find parts with you on the phone with them.
I would not let this deter you from purchasing the bike. Might need to do a little leg work to find the rack, but the bike and $$ is definitely worth it!

I also have the Like 150i and love it. Highly recommend. The underseat storage is so big, I won’t have a need for a top case personally.

If the valves are as easy to do as the Super 8 it's only about a one hour job and they rarely need adjusting. I went to 5k Miles then 7.5K miles between checks on mine with no issues. Over 31K on my Super 8. I considering the Like 150i to replace it. I really like it in white.
Anyone checked the top speed of theirs yet? How about MPG's?

Still breaking mine in (at 450 miles). It’s quick though and I have only been half throttle, but have only got it up to 40 mph, but really do feel like i should be able to get this thing up to 65 mph. It’s got some balls. And of course can’t really comment on mpg’s yet. Love this four valve engine. I have it in White. I really wanted the grey at first, but they only had a white and a blue one in stock and am
Now glad I went with the white. Haven’t seen a grey in person yet, but looking at picks now, think the white looks better. Blue looks good too. Struggled for a minute trying to pick at the dealer but figured go with the brighter color for safety.

Still in break-in here too, but have been to 50 mph and it seemed easy for the bike, like not even trying. I agree with Snoopzilla that it will get to 65 unless there is some sort of limiter we are not aware of.

These lightweight, small wheeled, short wheelbase scooters are at the outer limits of their stability at 65mph.
I do hope salesmen are not promoting these second generation LIKE's as being "highway capable", as some did when selling the LIKE200i's to new riders.
To ride at 60+ one needs more weight and more wheelbase - regardless of what can ne squeezed from the engine's top speed.

Usually only takes one their first time out on the free way riding a small displacement scooter. That first bump you hit at 60 mph, then the scramble to get off on the next exit....

That hasn't been my experience. My first time riding a scooter was a rental Yamaha Riva 125 in Hawaii. The Riva is even smaller and lighter than the Like 150 (209 Lbs and 49" wheelbase) and had tiny 10" wheels. I accidentally got on the highway with my wife on the back so I pinned the throttle and kept up with traffic at an indicated 65 MPH until the next exit. No drama, it was perfectly stable.
My Super 8 is about the same size and weight as the Like and it's perfectly smooth and stable at top speed and I have done short blasts on the intestate with it. If it had a few more HP and would go another 10 MPH I wouldn't hesitate to do that.
My Smax, which was a little bigger and heavier was perfectly happy running 70+ on the interstate.
Light weight and short wheelbase do not make a bike unstable. My super 8 is much smaller and lighter than my Majesty but is more stable in windy conditions.
The owner of Cleveland Moto claimed he saw 71 MPH on a Like 150i on the interstate. He claimed that GPS showed the Speedo to be dead on accurate. That's the only report I have seen so far. Someone on ADV claimed his speedo read a little high but since the scooter is new he hasn't run it up to top speed yet.
I am not buying a small scooter to ride on the interstate but it's nice to have the ability to do it once in a while for a short distance.

I've ridden my LIKE200i shod with Michelins on the highway at 60+mph - and it had no business being out there.
You've ridden the same, or smaller - and are OK with it.
We're not going to agree with each other.
I overheard a conversation in a Florida scooter shop a month ago - two young fellows shopping a new scooter. They kept asking about top speeds as they looked at a few new scooters. All below 200cc's.
To paraphrase the salesman, "in that price range - if you need highway speeds, let's go look at some of our used 300's."

Hmmm. 71 mph he says....guess I will have to find out in 500 more miles. Gonna have to verify speedo accuracy tonight. My experience has been different, any scooter with 10 inchers that I have ridden has been pretty sketchy at 50+ mph (Lance Havana 125 ,12†front 10†rear, and a Buddy 125). But anything I’ve ridden with 12†(Vespa Sprint and now my 150i) has been pretty stable. Granted the Lance and Buddy were topped out at that speed while the Vespa had some throttle room and assuming the same for my 150i. But still can’t accelerate out of trouble so it’s no dice

What service is required at 2000 miles? I think it's the 2000km service. I seriously doubt you will need a new air filter at only 2000KM. I haven't checked mine yet but I'm guessing it should be good for around 5,000 miles. You should be able to get one from your dealer.

Here in the US when you get at 2000miles the service light turns on. Also in the service manual says that you need to oil change and change the air filter. Thanks for the recommendation to make my own air filter but i'm not sure if i'm going to do it. I don't want to break my scooter hahah

Sure - have seen guys with $12,000 Burgmans cut up $1.98 home furnace filters for their scoot's filter -- and see how many tens of thousands of miles they can get out of a $7 spark plug.
Use of a home-made airfilter will void your 2 yr warranty - plus your scoot was designed to run properly on the airflow coming through that Kymco filter. If it is required at 2,000 miles your dealer will have it, or get it.

BTW, the owners manual is not always correct. Kymco is especially bad with their owners manual. The 2018 owners manual has an incorrect amount for oil in the final drive. I discovered it when I read the service manual which has a different amount. The 2019 owners manual has been corrected but apparently the intervals for some maintenance has been changed for no reason since it's the same engine.
My Super 8 has been running with my homemade foam filter for over 20,000 miles. Oiled foam filters are used in almost all off road motorcycles which are subject to much dustier conditions than most scooters. It will not damage your scooter but it might still be a good idea to wait until your warranty is expired.

You can't add Nodoe to your older like because it uses a different wiring harness.

Time to have a talk with your Kymco service manager. See what he says would be involved.
Please do take photos of the modification steps as you do them - this would be of much interest to several owners here.
