Title: Need help with people 150 variator and clutch purchase and rebuild.

Hi I'm new to the forum. My first question is are the dirt cheap $15 variator kits from china on ebay any good or just rubbish. Also are the $30 clutch kits on ebay rubbish or will they be ok in my People 150?

 They say they fit most gy6 125cc and 150cc. Do you think that would my people 150?

They are sourced from china I'm sure.

 Do you know what the oem standard torque spring is on my bike. I wanted to get a stiffer spring like 1000rpm but dont know what the standard one is already.

I want replace the clutch at least and i dont want to be opening the case again to fiddle with it because of a clutch problem....but saying that ...i don't want to buy the cheapest decent quality clutch and not pay crazy prices.
 Are the cheapest ebay clutches going to be ok for my bike?

What is the clutch pad material normally made of  .....because the one in my link from ebay looks like cork material.

 Sorry for all the questions but I've been researching for days and i just dont have the experience yet.

Don't buy the cheap stuff go with the Kymco factory replacement. If you plan on using this scooter as your own daily scoot by the good parts. If this is going to be flipped for cheap then by all means buy the junk e-bay junk but tell the new owner what you did. If you don't the scooter gods will get you! Buy the REAL factory parts.

 I learnt alot tonight when i took it all apart. It still had all original parts at 30k miles . I just bought it recently.
 
 The clutch pad material looked a bit thin but i don't know whats thin really. How many millimeters should i change the clutch pads at.

Www.cyclepedia.com (http://Www.cyclepedia.com) sells a printed service manual for the People 150....one on ebay now at $30 & free shipping.
Not perfect... but very good...many of us have one for our scoots from cyclepedia.
A good idea, esp. when shops charge $100 an hour to look at your scoot.

I checked the clutch pad thickness specs for my Kymco Like 200i which is probably similar to your People 150. The standard thickness is 3.963-4.037 mm and the service replace limit is 2.0 mm. Hope this is a help. ;)

I've had good luck with generic gy6 parts, but I look for good quality gy6 parts from reliable vendors. Some, like ScrappyDog, give good online information.  After breaking my original Kymco engine, I bought an entire generic gy6 replacement and it arrived complete in a cardboard box by FedEx in 3 days.  It was a quarter the price of a Kymco original ($229.00) including freight.  A generic BBK was another $50.  Mostly it's just not worth bothering with repairing components - replacements are cheaper and easier.  Instead of buying clutch parts, just buy the entire unit. If you want a performance unit, buy the "racing" parts. NOTE: none of this applies to a fuel-injected Kymco.  Except for the gy6 variator and clutch, they're a different (and better) animal entirely.

 On the recommendation of another forum member, I purchased the $30.00 clutch from ebay. I didn't need it, as the original was still in spec. I had my wife's unused LIKE. I installed it as a test on the red Like, then moved it to mine 3000 miles ago. It is still good as new. I have purchased cheap variator parts to check out. There is a difference in quality from the Kymco OEM. I used the movable face from it. No problems. I do not believe that they will last as long as the originals.
