Scooters - 125 to 300 => LIKE 200i => Topic started by: eklund.mada on February 26, 2018, 12:16:27 PM

Hey guys
I got a 2017 like 200i a while back (was some "special edition" orange colour) but did not come with a top box or rack. The shops here want $150-$250 AUD for the rack alone, I'm sure I could find it for cheaper elsewhere but haven't had any luck so far.
thanks
A.

You have the gray rack extending behind the seat, over the tail light, correct?
There are some inexpensive top boxes on ebay...each requiring some method of attachment to you LIKE's rear rack.
For @$100 you can put a 929 Bestem top case back there. It comes with LED always-on running lights, plus brake lights, installed in it . It also comes with all the hardware you need to install it on your LIKE.
There are likely many that can be installed on your LIKE....but I liked the added safety of the lighted Bestem case....plus it was complete as a kit.
A forum search here should find you my DIY installation post, if interested.

No I don't that's the item I'm looking for.

Well, I'll be darned. Have seen previous photos of Australian LIKE200I scoots with that rack...and a box. Wonder why the change.
Ebay sells parted out Like's....but postage to Australia would be high.
Too late to negotiate that into the purchase I guess. Have seen countries selling this scooter with no case, but never before without that rear rack.
(also noted Kymco Australia continuing oft heard misinformation about EFI scooter having a back-up kick starter)

I just took a look at the Kymco Australia website and it shows the orange SE model with a small grab handle behind the seat. If this is like yours you might be able to attach a top box mount to that. BTW look closely at the scoot it is actually a 125 with a back-up kickstarter.

You can get the proper case and fittings for it. Just ask your dealer to get a price.

I must say that I like that color. ;)

Without a doubt, that orange is nice!!!

Assuming there is a rear carrier on your scoot you can make your own top box rack:
I made my own rack out of 3/4" plywood for both my GV 250 and DT 300. First, I bought a new top box (27" by 13") on ebay for $49.95, postage included from an outfit in Pomona, CA. The box comes with a sturdy plastic mounting bracket that allows quick release of the box. Interestingly, it's the same exact Chinese box that Saddleman sells for $200, but with their logo on it. I traced the outline of the provided mounting bracket on the plywood, cut it out, sanded the edge, sprayed it flat black, bolted it to the rear carrier, countersinking the bolt heads in the plywood to maintain a flat surface, then bolted the mounting bracket to my rack.
I believe that "Warning, 5 Kg limit" on the rear carrier is nonsense, Kymco's legal department attempt to avoid law suits.

I have a spare if you're interested, whole assembly rack, box (black) and all, it's off a Like 50 but they're exactly the same. Been keeping it for my orange LE which also came with the silly chrome grab rail but I made a rack instead and I'll never use the box. Where in OZ are you? I'm in Adelaide.

Well, there is always the retro-scooter look: plywood and milk crate. Really sets off the Italian styling if you can find an Italian cheese box.

There's a German firm making Like racks on fleabay. What's the import taxes like for you from Germany?
