Title: Florida Scooters
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on November 27, 2017, 06:35:03 PM
One thing I notice about scooters in Florida is that darn few seem to be garage queens.
Each of the 2 dozen I've seen down here, St Pete Beach area, in the past couple of days looks to be well used as daily transport. The sun and salt air has dimmed their sparkle, of course....but they are racking up the miles.
Also, each looked to be Chinese made. Not a Japanese or Taiwanese scoot in the bunch.
So different than the scooters which I  see in Ohio. But I only see  3 to 5 a year.

Like Denver, Stig. Those people RIDE! Lotsa scoots and motorcycles. Ya don't see 'em when it is icy. But a lot of front range wx is rideable even in winter. This does not count the millenials in Boulder where the Colorado University breeds strange creatures....

It’s the Florida weather. You don’t have to be Superman on most winter days. Very few days below freezing. And even in the dead of winter in north Florida, most days are above 45 in the morning and above 65 in the day. I LOVE Florida.

It’s because we use scooters here as transportation. Cheap way to get to work.
The Tampa area is overbuilt like much of ‘new florida”. Takes brass balls, or need, to ride a 50 there.

I rode the space shuttle* back to the Tampa airport last night, piloted by Capt. Kirk. We never came close to doing the speed limit (i could see the speedo from my seat)....on the highway we were only passed by 3 sport bikes...crazy sobs.
The Capt. looked at the road every so often while playing with his onboard nav system.
Quite thrilling - the whole experience.
I'm not a drinker...but my complimentary Baileys Cream and coffee was followed by two more on the plane...for medicinal purposes.
Glad to get back to my Liberty this morning....

In addition to the Chinese scooters, there's also an abundance of motorized bicycles.
