Have been using a leather ICON armored jacket for 3 years. From the beginning the front zipper looked suspect - and last week it began failing. I googled a repair for a leather jacket zip and up popped one old time shoe repair shop 25 miles distant!
"Sure, we fix 'em all the time!"
So, dropped the jacket off (and visited the nearby US AirForce Museum ).
His shop was a riot of old leather - stacks and piles of items.
My only concern is that he be able to locate it in his jumble.
Really neat to find a thriving old-time shoe repair shop! (he even had two elderly spectators in chairs - just watching & visiting)
Hope he can find it.....

Not to worry. Like old time salvage yards and real auto parts guys he knows where every thing is.

You just brought back a pile of memories. I remember the shoe repair shops of the fifties, the smells, one motor pulling a long shaft with all sorts cutting, buffing and polishing wheels and the operator with his long, multi stained leather apron, looking over the top of his glasses, when he talked to you. Those were the days before the cheap, throw away shoes from China. Thanks Tom

Not to far from where I live is an old time shoe repair shop. I remember my folks would buy us wingtips and have a go to the repair shop to have metal plates tacked to the heel and toe to extend the life of the sole. I had shoes with uppers that lasted years with sole replacement of a 1/2 dozen times before my parents would trash them.

Yeah, "taps!!"
I remember those. Such a cool sound in school hallways!
So, they banned them.
I was cool for about 3 days...
