Title: Harley challenged me to drag
Post by: Hoolander2 on July 12, 2010, 03:42:26 PM
So yesterday I'm sitting in the left lane on my Xciting 500 at a traffic light in town.  I hear "glubglubglub" pulling up beside me in the right lane and it's a Harley rider about my age.  He looks over, smiles, and says "wanna race? and we both laugh good naturedly  :D Inside I'm laughin with a little devilishness though.

So I say "race ya to the yellow RR sign" which is about 80-90 yards down the road.  He was so suprised he didn't believe for a second.

"for real??" he says.

Just then, as he's looking over at me, the light turns green.  I say, "YEAH! GO!"

I give him a second and a half to look back at the light and let his clutch out and get rolling while I tiddle the throttle and creep along. Then I nail it and instantly jump 4 bike lengths in front of him.

                                                     INTERMISSION. . .

And Now Our Show Resumes. . .

He realizes he's in for something now!

I stay way ahead of him through his first gear with his motor really reving, though he makes up perhaps one bike length.  Then he's got to shift and I stretch it out again.  "Good Girl Kimmie"!

He gets into second and sails by me just before our finish line.

So, I didn't win.    However. . . I feel if I hadn't given him that break at the start it would have been neck and neck.  Even a good chance I would've taken the win.

We get to the next light and he compliments me and my scooter and I do the same for him.  He's all smiles and says, "man, we could go to jail for this sh_t, and right here in the middle of town too!"  We laugh about it and go our separate ways.

Well, I could say I won't give any more "head starts" to any Harleys cause I'd sure like to beat one.  But I'm happy the way it turned out -- me and him laughing.

I'm still going to re-tune my new clutch. I'm certain I can get more out of it at low end.  In the back of my mind I'm dreaming of a bigger carb.  ;)

Picture a HE MAN if you like, sure!    Then don't picture the real me who is 134 pounds, 6 feet.

Embarrassed about my body?  Yeah, somewhat.

Embarrassed about the acceleration I can get out of my scooter?  No way!    :D

As tempting as it is, I think I might just pass on that one. My cheap cylinder kit was described as a hand grenade when I first got it. Having got that sorted out I might just stay away from explosives.....For the time being anyway.... ;)

how much does it cost over there? Here it costs $543 to order one. Actually my friend already ordered 1 but still having 2nd thoughts on getting it. Need more feedbacks. BTW it's the old hit clutch that have 3 pads only.

Has anyone installed the dr. Pulley clutch with a malossi variator?

Alot uses them in spain but i get migranes reading their forum even with google translate!

I dont know about your bike, but i'm running it in my people 50 2t.  The tuneing possibilties seem endless getting what you want, with out great cvt tuneing skills is a chore.( I don't have them  :D )  Once set to something acceptible it works great. For me to exploit the clutch fully I had to run a larger drive face and a larger torque drive heavier weights and now able to run around 70 mph not dialed in yet seem to be never ending.  I changed to much at once! been running in circles.  So It does work fine if the operator knew what they were doing it would be awsome!  ;D  P.s. Check out sip for the best deals it was cheaper than that usd. Under $200 with bell i think (ordered separetly)

My direct deal with Dr. Pulley was $409 USD for the clutch and they threw in a set of sliders and slide pieces for the ramp plate free.  Also came with I think 5 sets of tuning springs for clutch shoes and 3 or more for pillow springs.  Also a couple shims for the torsion spring if I wanted to increase tension on it.

Express shipping from Taiwan was $101 USD. Got to Georgia, USA in 6 days!

Bank transfer fee was $45.  Don't know what Pay Pal would've been but I just don't trust Pay Pal.

I've grown used to the way it came set up and like it fine! No noise other than a faint ringing when clutch is partially engaged. REAL smooth engagement.  If I wanted tire smoke and wheelies, I feel pretty sure it could be tuned to give that!  ;)

Cleaned inside my clutch bell with a fine little wire brush cause the new shoes are a smidgeon wider than the stock and there was a sort of track of hardened dust in there.

;) Trying to be nice. Almost what i paid for my first people 50, of corse i have sunk a grand plus into it at this point to figure it all out,as a matter of fact it's why i joined . LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES!!!  ;D And anyone have some insight please pass it on. I know we are talking apples and oranges in this thread. The bigger 4t's are more pricey.
