Title: Correct valve lash spec from Piaggio HQ's
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on August 15, 2017, 10:37:13 PM
Spoke with the Piaggio USA serv. tech. today.
He checked the engine specifications which he has access to, and reported that both the owner's manual (13 mos old printing) and the service manual have "old information".
The underseat specs. label is correct - I am to set the valves at 0.10mm not 0.08mm.
He stated that while a variation of +/- 0.02mm is permissible in the valves - but if one starts with the wrong info of 0.08 - one could end up with 0.06 - somewhat tighter than the correct 0.10mm

Really nice to have a way to check things - since the dealer tech. says they have no servicing info as yet on this scooter.

So, go by the labe, not the owner's or service manual. (or youtube video)
At least on this scooter.

Good to know Stig. Glad you went with the 10 instead of 8. Gives you more room between adjustments.

I think it's the difference between the older Euro 3 spec motor vs the new Euro 4 spec.

Yep, have been using that on the LIKE200I for 4 yrs....as per the manual.
Seems like my VW's were the same?
Also, seems like there is a large school of thought that intake and exhaust valve gap should never be the same...."for obvious reasons".(Vespa forum, etc.)
Guess the manufacturers didn't know this.....

I don't pretend to know much about anything...so I go by the manuals.
Usually keeps me out of trouble. (as we were taught in the service: "I don't know, Sir. But I'll go find out.")

Ah, well, thermal growth is pretty small in short valve stems.

Tom when I was in the army, the correct response , if I didn't have an answer, was, "Sir I have forgotten." because I had been taught Everything. chuckly
