I have a quart of Amsoil 20w-50 v-4 synthetic motorcycle oil sitting around taking up space on my shelf. I was thinking of using it for my next oil change on my GV 250. Any imput would be appreciated.

..how many miles /kms on your scoot??
..ever changed oil your scoots before, if so, how many times??

Its an 06' with 7800 miles. Last change was at 6.5k miles with "Motul" 10w40 full synthetic.

My uneducated opinion is to stick with 10W40. I ran my old Yamaha XS650 with 20W50 and 10W40 was called for, but it had 56,000 mi. on it when I sold it and was air cooled. Since you're water cooled and fairly low miles, I'd stick with manufacturer recomendations.

20W-50 is thick oil that does not thin out at high temps, which is great for older engines with worn seals.
I would not recommend it for a new machine, and especially, I would not use it during winter because it does not flow in the cold as it should.
If you absolutely want to use it, you should not experience any problems now (providing it's summer now in your neck of woods :) ), but it would be wise to use 10W- or 0W- oil for winter driving when the temps fall down, especially if you ride sub zero like many of us.
I am proud how smart and elaborate reply I just wrote! :)
