after fixing the carb I took it for a ride of course. half way down the road I heard a high winding nose then it went dead. won't start now similar to the battery being dead. only clicks. anyone know what I broke?

Not enough info.

the winding nose came from the engine compartment I believe it may have been the gear box

Oil in gearbox?

here's something else too. I can hear the grinding sound when I attempt to start the bike again too. so that is something new.
-
Grinding noise the same as high winding noise? We talkin' about the same noise? What gearbox are you referring?

It looks like Jess is using a translation software. High winding noise may be "high wind noise" or a sound of an air leak somewhere. Just guessing.

update
the belt is fine. when I try to start the bike there is a heavy grinding sound. I took the starter out to test it and the starter spins fine. put it back in. same grinding noise. I'm suspecting bearings. but not 100%. any thoughts?

What else do you observe when activating the starter? You hear the grinding noise but does the engine spin like it should? Do you notice any sparks or smoke from battery to starter?

Just wondering if you looked at the small gear on the starter? If the teeth are worn badly, that could cause a grinding noise. If you hear a winding or singing sound upon deceleration, especially at high speed, this is the final reduction gears in the gear box and even with the proper amount of gear lube, this is normal. I have often wondered why Kymco calls for only 7.1 oz. of gear lube in the gearbox on my DT300, when every other brand of scooter is , fill to overflow?? Without actually hearing a noise or sound, it is difficult to pinpoint where it's coming from or what causes it. I wish you luck with this and welcome to the jungle, er or forum.

so just to recap here.
the bike was sitting all winter. started up fine no noise no trouble but the first drive I heard a high winding/grinding noise that increase in pitch as I accelerated then suddenly pinged then it died. come to find out if also drained my battery. after charging the battery and attempting to start the bike there is a low tone grinding noise that I can also feel. asks the bike won't turn over. it's not the starter or bendex they were removed and tested.
