I see that you are not that far from Mexico. ....have you ever ridden a scooter down there?
50 yrs ago this summer, I spent a few weeks backpacking on the beaches between TJ an Ensenada.
Perhaps it was a bit safer down there in those days? In all those weeks I only had a gun pointed at me one time.
Nice pics -- thanks for sharing.

Never ridden a bike down there but I seem to remember the roads being pretty rough in a car. I haven't been down there in years. I have a friend that used to lead 4x4 groups down there but he quit doing many years ago after a bunch of their rigs was broken into. Smog? Nah like Karl said the nearly constant onshore wind blows it up to the foothills. Reminds of a time passing through Irwindale, I remember you could cut the smog with a knife.

It was in the late 60's, spent time in Pasadena, Downey and Covina....a cloudless sky was pale gray. Never recall seeing deep a deep blue sky. Sometimes at night, sittng on porch, it looked like London fog had rolled in, or I was in the Lincoln Tunnel.
Recall San Diego and San Francisco with great fondness.....and....you ever watch a couple young ladies in miniskirts climb into the back seat of a 2 door? Loved my buddie's 67 Mustang. ("DON'T put the top down till we're all seated!") My goodness....those were the days!

Nice trip down memory lane. Got out your way a few years back towing my B400 out to SD to visit my son. Got to ride up from there through San Clemente, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach and up to Huntington Beach. Had to work around the Marine Corps base to get back on the coast highway. Forgot about the late afternoon fog that rolls in off the ocean and gets real foggy and very chilly too. Deb and I only had our mesh jackets over t shirts as it was a really chilly ride back to SD. We stopped in Laguna to get Deb a long sleeve shirt as she was chilled to the bone. Camp Pendleton was really foggy as I feared I wouldn't be able to read the exit sign to get off in SD. Fortunately the real thick fog was mostly around Pendelton. Anyway, this is where I bought my first bike back in 68 when I moved to Huntington Beach. Remember the Golden Bear, a club on the corner of Main St. and the Coast Hwy. where folks like John Denver and Gordon Lightfoot would perform. I was too cheap and too poor to afford admission as we hung out front where they piped the live concerts to an outside speaker. Funny, right next door was another club, a biker bar with really hard core dudes. Don't recall why I felt compelled to hang out there but they never gave me any problems. Oh, and my very first bike was a 65 Yamaha Catalina 250 parallel twin UJM (universal japenese motorcycle). Cool times. Thanks for the trip back into time buddy.

That marine layer is on of the things that make the beach areas nicer during the summer keeping it cooler. Lots of things have changed around here, gone are a large number of the oil pumpers in Huntington Beach, and homes or high rises have taken their place. Years ago I didn't like these areas could get much more crowded at times but in Costa Mesa there is a big move toward taking out old industrial buildings and putting multi unit condominiumso up even taking out sections of single family homes for them. I can only imagine what that's going to be like in a few years. But there are few places where the weather is so nice year round. Nice to have a variety of riding areas also. If it's cold go to the desert or warm go to the mountains. I probably take it a bit for granted and don't get out as often as I should.

Yep, I hardly recognized Costa Mesa/Newport Beach. Place has really grown up or should I say blown up really big. Much different back in 68.

The scenery is kinda old-hat, for me, but I sure do like the My Road scooter !
Perhaps you could run up the PCH one day and get some shots in Santa Monica, Malibu, and Mugu Rock ?
Is Neptunes Net still open for business in Trancas ?

You mean Malibu? Yes it's still there, been a little while since I've been there but I have been thinking about going again recently. I like to stop there when I am in the area. I'd also like to swing back up to the Rock Store. Mugu Rock reminds me of a time many years ago when I was working for a car prep company when we were doing a photo shoot on the old closed section of highway that used to go around the outside of the rock. I need to go riding more and then I have to choose which of my bikes to ride. :-)

I think he does though his profile doesn't say where. Pacific Rim being land areas surrounding the Pacific Ocean like the US coast from Mexico to Canada. WX is used as an abbreviation for weather (as listed on CB radio for weather stations).

Saturday I rode up Pacific Coast Highway (with a detour along Ocean Blvd in Long Beach) to a friends in place in Marina Del Ray and what a beautiful day/ride it was. I was surprised at the construction to replace the old Gerald Desmond Bridge with a modern one that will allow simply huge container ships into the ports. A nice ride over the Vincent Thomas Bridge too.

This Sunshine-Skyway bridge S. of Tampa, Fla. gives me the heebee geebees every time I drive across it in a car. I made the mistake of looking to my right, over the railing, the first time.....
Can't imagine doing it on my LIKE200!

I actually got a touch of vertigo when crossing that Florida bridge. Not good while driving!

Had to check out auto rotate, the no power landing. The flare up must get exciting.

Bravest pilots in the world are the med-evac pilots, on any battlefield.
2nd bravest pilots in the world were the pilot instructors at Ft Wolters in 60's & 70's....teaching the autorotate to the 20 yr old Huey student pilots! On any given day at Ft Wolters those kids tried various methods to kill themselves - & the instructors.
But, I'll tell you what - once they got in country - those teen-aged Medevac warrant officers could do amazing things with that million $ Huey.
I'm sure the other guys were good, too - but I only ever flew dustoffs, or the odd ash & trash when moving around incountry.

Must get exciting being a back seat driver on a helicopter. Maybe they ought to give passengers fake controls so at least they're grabbing, pulling or pushing something, kinda like a fake brake pedal in a car.

Here in my domicile, the Ring of Fire is almost a regular topic because there's no telling when another quake will occur, or it's severity.
We've seen some pretty decent ones, first hand... when the street before you has waves like the ocean... it's an E-ticket !
The Ring of Fire is a feature of the Pacific Rim.
Largest ocean on the planet nearby, it comes up in conversation frequently, also.
Yes, I do have a personal preference straying to casual, as opposed to scientific notation and grid coordinates. :-)

I did pay attention when travelling in a small auto across that suspension bridge up in Tacoma while it was windy.
