This topic of how to properly break-in a new scooter. In any case, I thought I'd turn to the Kymco experts on this forum.
Here's the deal, I'm picking up a brand spanking new People 150 this coming Thursday. The dealer is 64 miles away. The highway between here and there has several long stretches of 55 mph speed limits. Thus, I'd have the new engine pegged for fairly long intervals. But there will also be many traffic lights and small towns in between. When I spoke with dealer he said I should just drive the scoot home but I sort of think I should bring it home in pick up.
So what do y'all, the experts, think?

You will have a 2 year warrenty . Why not just ride it home ? Just try to avoid full throttle for extended periods and change the oil after 600-1000 mi . Good luck .

Good: driving home on its own wheels.
Best: driving home on small rural streets instead of using the highway.

The main thing on break in is to very your speed and no wide open throttle.The ride home should be good for you and the scoot.I like to change oil at 400 to 600 miles to get any machine left over particals out.Take the long way home ;D

Vary your speed and don't go full throttle for the first 600 miles. Also the first oil and transmission fluid change comes @ 200 miles you also must check the valve clearance at 200 and adjust if necessary. Good luck with your new ride and safe riding.

Rode mine home just like I ride every time I take it out. It was a bit stiff at first and runs better, smoother with every mine. I have owned my share of scoots and motorcycles and I can't tell any difference in whether I followed break in instructions or just rode it like I stole it. These Kymco's are well built, make sure oil is at the correct level and enjoy the scoot on the way home, heck find a longer way home... ;D

Considering I'm a complete newbie, I'm leaning more towards throwing it in the back of a pick-up.
I haven't scooted around in 20+ years and I don't want to crash my new scoot before I've even gotten home yet. I'll post pics after I pick her up.

That is a good idea, find a quiet place where you can get a feel for the scoot and get used to riding it without any distractions and venture a little further out as you are comfortable wit it.

When I got my scoot I had it delivered as it was over 70 miles away. I broke mine in as advised from Kymco. If you are new I would suggest the pick up truck and then ride until you feel more confident. As an old motor cyclist told me "As soon as you think you have broken the iron horse it will show you who is boss". I live by words every day. do not get over confident as that is the quickest way to get hurt.

..i agree with oldrider and sid, if you're not comfortable with riding...but i'm not so sure about the "recommended" break-in...i do know i've ran my WOT broken in A50 for 49,000km in 30 mnths...

I suppose you'll have a ride there to pick it up, and the vehicle that broughjt you will be the "chase car" on the ride back. Sounds like maybe a 2 hour ride back and it could be a hassle trying to remain together for that amount of time. But the safety concerns stated by others should be your prime consideration.
