Have developed a momentary clutch / belt squeal when taking off (especially fast).
Pulled everything apart 2 weeks ago and cleaned everything, but did
not roughen up the sheave faces. Two or three days later, it started
back up. Unfortunately the manual does not present anything about
this malady.

..how many kms do you have on your belt??

A stiffer contra spring will add more pressure to the belt, and one of the Malossi, or gates kevlar belts will not stretch

Under 3,000 miles doesn't seem like enough to be te belt.
Although it could be. The manual says to scuff the sheave
faces with 600 grit sandpaper.

Have you seen the thread under Xciting 500 titled something like "Does your Xciting growl"? There're a lot of ideas there. One in particular where the clutch bell was drilled with a few small holes to let the dust out.

Hoolander...Urbestfriend says "Thanks for this tip." It was well into the list
and addresses the same exact issue. Today I rode the whole 11 miles from work
and didn't have one episode. (Didn't stop but once or twice.) Brings me to the
conclusion that more active riding, stops, starts, etc. will cause the noise.
Currently...I am comparing the parts list for both tis bike and my Grandvista.
Many of the same parts seem to be used on either model. It's always a good
investment to have common replaceable parts in your stock.
